Great shot Laurie!!! Knowing how fast these guys move, and how hard it is to freeze a shot, this is a well done shot! Not to mention the pose and composition are exceptional!!!

Leslie, Thanks for your comments on this and my other images. I had the hardest times focusing in on this little guy! My AF couldn't focus (I guess becuase I was too far away and he was too small). So this is my best effort at MF with my telephoto. I am so close to just splurging on the 100mm macro. It's a lot of money, but I think it will be worth it. You mentioned that you use it as your walk around lens--does it do well on standard shots in addition to macros?

I know how you feel by your title...a little soft on the focus, maybe too close?...that seems to be my biggest problem...but the colors you managed are beautiful...excellent composition

I love the colors.. it is too bad that the image is not sharp... did you use a tripod?.... even with IS it is hard to keep the camera/lens shake minimized when zooming out, especially at or near the 300mm range...I have the 100mm but you can still do a lot with zoom lens but of course you have to know the limitations and compensate for them...anyway, I like how the dragonfly is sitting and as I said.. the colors are great.... good capture

Very well captured Laurie! I love the colours and detail on the dragonflies legs. As a cheaper alternative you could try closeup lenses (filters) for your telephoto? I have a couple and have got some good results (see my dandelion shot for an example). Insects are realy hard to get to do what you want them to but you've done very well with this shot....

Such beautiful colours and a great angle of view. These are so difficult to photograph without a macro. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Linda! So many lense options and so little money. If someone handed me $10,000, I think I could spend it all on photography equipment in under an hour! :)

MUCH better than my attempts at a dragonfly -- although there is one I am getting ready to post just for interest sake. This is not only a beautiful subject with his powder blue back, delicately facetted wings and complex eye -- but the angle of your shot and the cropping is really fine and features him perfectly. Well done!

As well you should be, it's lovely and a great catch..I want the 105 macro lens, that's my next one, hehehe...Great composition and presentation as usual...love the colors, these dragonflys are such beautiful and graceful creatures. I don't see them here....Wonderfully done Laurie...:):)Linda
