it seems overexposed mandy. i think even using levels you wont be able to fix that. best to get the exposure right when taking the photo.

I like it, my first thought was it was a bit more sepia but it still looks great and i love sepia too. thank you and I nevre mind the suggestions!

Hi mandy, I really like this portrait, I think it is beautiful (I have a duck like that; his name is norton :)) perhaps a little burnt out, generally as a rule the blacks should be black with a good tonal range. I really like the position, body language and facial expression of the subject, although it does get lost on the wall behind a bit (its a cool effect though). I hope you dont mind, but I had a bit of a play in PS, and this is what I came up with, let me know what you think ok?
