About An attempt to achieve a natural impression against difficult backlight with underexposed shadows and blown-out highlights... Much PS dabbling. Shot with circular polarizer, handheld. To get optimal tonality I had to combine seven different TIFFs, as layer in PS: three developed for the water (background, multiply, vivid light), one with levels and curves for the trunk and large branches, one for the foliage, one for the reflections, and one for the bank / distant parts. Shutter speed: 1/50 sec; Aperture: 5; ISO: 100; Focal length: 17mm. A bit sharpening with C1 RAW conversion sw, final sharpening after PS work and resizing.

How beautiful!! The reflections in the water are so nice, the trees are pretty. Very relaxing place, nice capture!

Lily, thank you for your comment. Regarding the workflow: thats fine by me, I will mail you my steps. Your first upload on UF shows that you are not a complete novice in PS. I hope that my technique is useful for your work

Carsten, Just a PS to my above comment. I felt bad about asking for the workflow. Email me a copy of the flowchart ONLY if you get time to put one together for Toni. And if this is easy and is allright for you to share. Don't go through any extra trouble for me.

Best wishes,

Lily

Carsten, It feels like I am in a forest preserve looking down at the reflection of the sky in the water. Vivid, and crystal clear. I've passed through thousand places like this but if I were to take a picture of it, they'll come out looking like something totally different. In fact I sometimes feel I have the unique ability to turn a gorgeous scene into a lifeless B-W without any help from anyone!

I see above Toni and you were talking about the PS steps. May I ask for a copy for that PS flowchart also? After that I promise I will never bother you again Carsten.

Toni, thank you for your comment. I will mail a workflow to you, for now I have a link http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/digital-blending.shtml
to a tutorial with this technique (my approach is called "The painted Mask" there). It is indeed quite a trivial motif, the point is a lighting that is almost impossible in reality but that looks realistic to an unbiased observer ;-)

First rate, Carsten. I've taken lots of this exact image..in fact this looks soooo close to some I'd think you were in my harddrive to get this...lol. But I'm telling you, you solved all the problems I had (and couldn't). You are amazing with the TIFF combo thing...something I've never done, and would love to learn more about. Never heard about it until yours! I took PS through advanced...not touched upon. Where did you learn this technique? You can e:mail the full-blown tutorial...hahahaha. Just kidding. Stellar. Antonia.
