About Close-up of a fireweed leaf. To shoot this, I taped the leaf to a window.

What stunning colours - I love it!
I'm going to try taping all kind of things to the window now - if the results are so good :)

Wow stunning detail and color saturation. Nice creativity in getting that backlighting.

I finally got out and made use of my dSLR the way it was intended to be used. I'll have to e-mail you to tell you about it. I'm also curious to hear what projects you've been on.

Another lesson in the facts of nature... again, thanks!
It sure has an intense colour in the fall... I'll have to keep my eyes open for it next year!

Kim, fireweed leaves turn red in the autumn. Clorophyll pigments break down, and anthrocyanin (the red pigments) take over. The yellow blotch is just a part of the leaf that has broken down further. It would have turned brown very soon. The leaf was too thin to shoot in any way other than having the main vein of the leaf in the center.

Thanks for sharing how you did it.... I've always tried this, but by holding the leaf up to a lamp... the result is light leaks and unevenness. I will have to try the window bit!
The colour caught my eye right away... it's so powerful and so warm. The detail is amazing as well. I would have thought that placing the main line through the centre would make it feel unbalanced but it's a nice change from the diagonal look. There seems to be a light yellow smudge of something in the lower right though.... any idea what it is? It disrupts the flow of the little lines.
