This is quite a lovely photograph - very homey atmosphere, beautiful shadows. Is the gold spot in the center of the kettle intentional? I found that it drew my eye immediately - was that your intent or did it just work out that way?

Hi Cindi! This is a well-deserved BIP shot indeed. The shadows are subtle and perfect. A very warm feeling when you look right thru it. My warm Congratulations! Thank you for dropping a line to my "How do I start?". You actually flattered me :-) Thanks! I just wanted to share my ART with everybody else. Cheers! -- joey

Yes, but steam coming out of the kettle would be the obvious move here. A little too cliche.

Cindi, congratulations on BIP. You deserve it.
The moment I saw this photo I knew it was exceptional ... I am so intrigued by the direction your portfolio is going.
You have captured the beauty and the drama in the scene. The title allows me to speculate about the type of person who would make tea in a kitchen like this.
So it is obvious that you are a clever writer as well as an excellent photographer.
Well done! Leora

Hi Cindi, This is going to be a rather long story. Looking at this shot, and particularly after reading your reply to Marcel Laurens where you say this is an "interior shot" I started wondering what choices I would've made.
I considered a wide angle, trying to include more of the shelf on top of the stove, a lower camera position to capture more of the furnace (oven?) underneath, but I think none of these would've been an option in recreating the streamline atmosphere in the way you did. Even the cluttered dish rack crossed my mind in assessing the vital (but less obvious) in this shot. Although photographically, all things I considered would have solved something, none of them would've actually improved this shot. The setting is excellent. And very well captured.
The only thing I think would've added the finishing touch was if this scene would've been more alive, as the title suggests. I think it's the steam out of the kettle that is missing.
On the other hand, that would've changed the dated atmosphere and the effect of the awesome shadows. The missing bits are the important ones here. This scene shouldn't be perfect.
Awesome shot! Well thought through, and expertly captured. The only thing that's the odd one out here is the title...
Cheers,
Hugo

The simplicity of this photograph is very generous in its giving -- the teapot there in the soft quiet of the kitchen reveals the human ceremony about to be realized. Your capturing this with the rich yet humble naturalness of window light is telling of your genius, Cindi.

Cindi, this photo is sensational.
Who ever said a kitchen was dull. Just catch the right lighting and it becomes magical. Was it late in the day or early in the am? Or a bank light through the blinds?
Color styling is very nostalgic and the warm accents, a delight.
You have a talent for transforming everything you photograph. Cheers, Leora.
