About One of the most interesting architecture in Helsinki is the Finlandia hall from Alvar Aalto, built from 1971 - 1975 from white marble. This is one of my tries to show it in my personal view, using the architecture more as a blurr area background. The combination of the streetlight and the giant tree shadows inspired me. Used a red filter and increased the contrast.

Hi Sérgio,

thanks for spending your time and effort on re-thinking my photo, it is quite interesting what you or Hugo would do differently.

But I hope it is ok if I stick to my version :)

Cheers,
Verena

Hi Hugo,

thanks for your different view on my shadow wall, I like to see what you would do differently if you would be with me.

Thanks

Verena,

this is trully an original and creative view!

At the first look I tought Hugo's version was more correct as I wasn't too confortable with the remnants of those akward angles. But looking better I find those akward angles are just perfect: the way that wall ends in that white corner against the sky makes it feel like this vibrant plane, a perfect canvas for that projected shadow. Also the inclusion of that lamp is amazing as it gives the perfect reason for that shadow to be there, it actually looks it is the lamp that is projecting the shadow.

Saying all these I have to get back to those disturbing elements that give a litle context but disturb (for me) the speech of this great composition.

Well I tryed my version of it doing the following:

1. Decreased the light a bit so that plane would be more vibrant against the sky and that the shadow would be more contrasted;

2. Cropped it into a more horizontal frame that I feel more apropriate to this composition.

3. Removed the remnants of those 'awesome' angles condensing the wall to a single plane.

Well I just hope you like it! :)

Best regards,
Sérgio

Hi Verena, It was great meeting you yesterday...) I had a great time!

Notwithstanding the tremendous appeal in this shot, I think the camera tilt is a bit excessive. I like the tilt, but as with slightly tilted horizons, I think the angle of this composition is too close to 45 degrees. There needs to be a tilt, though, as I think it increases the tension to this shot. Attached, you'll find the best I could do, which isn't very good, but it does explain what I mean.

I think B&W is a very good choice, and I like the tonal range. The shadow of the tree on the marble wall without actually showing the wall is great touch. Very well captured....

Cheers,

Hugo
