Can't help with IR--have never shot it. Looks fine to me. The grain does look a bit, er, pre-historic, though. I'm very busy right now, Michael; sorry I can't keep up with comemnts!

Thanks for the tips. The film transport monitor sounds like what may have caused my problem. I will definitley try your suggestions when I borrow another camera and try IR film again.

Some of the newer cameras, notably Pentax MZ-S use an infrared signal to monitor film transport. This will fog IR film. I discovered this the hard way. Kodak HIE is very sensitive to any stray radiation and it may be advisable to put a small strip of black electrician's tape over the little clear window on the camera back. Otherwise, this is a pretty good IR image. IR gets stunning results with vegetation. Chlorophyl is a very good IR reflector. Strangely, aluminum aircraft become very smooth in IR. It's my favorite medium. Enjoy!!
