About This was taken at the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles. I was shooting infrared film for a class assignment. Both roles I took had some heat or light damgae along one side of the negatives. My instructor said it may have been from the date stamp function on my camera even though it was off. I will be borrowing an older, manual camera for my next attempt at IR and would appreciate any suggestions to improve my images.

Can't help with IR--have never shot it. Looks fine to me. The grain does look a bit, er, pre-historic, though. I'm very busy right now, Michael; sorry I can't keep up with comemnts!

Thanks for the tips. The film transport monitor sounds like what may have caused my problem. I will definitley try your suggestions when I borrow another camera and try IR film again.

Some of the newer cameras, notably Pentax MZ-S use an infrared signal to monitor film transport. This will fog IR film. I discovered this the hard way. Kodak HIE is very sensitive to any stray radiation and it may be advisable to put a small strip of black electrician's tape over the little clear window on the camera back. Otherwise, this is a pretty good IR image. IR gets stunning results with vegetation. Chlorophyl is a very good IR reflector. Strangely, aluminum aircraft become very smooth in IR. It's my favorite medium. Enjoy!!
