About	October 2001: Crater Lake National Park Crater Lake National Park was one of the United States first national parks and is the only national park in Oregon. The 22 square mile lake is extremely beautiful and the rim drive that is accessible during the warmer months is the only way to see the lake and it?s beautiful reflection of the sky. The exception is stopping at the only trailhead that allows you to walk to the lakes edge. This trail is comprised of dozens of switchbacks that allow you to negotiate the steep crater rim. From the top of the crater rim to the waters edge is equivalent to walking down 60 or 70 flights of stairs. For this photo I endured the hike to the waters edge after already hiking some 40 miles in the park, 30 of which were with 40lbs of backpacking gear in addition to my tripod and camera. It was a pretty painful walk as I later found out I was suffering from tendonitis in my ankle and numerous blisters on my feet. It was all worth it though as when I reached the waters edge it was late morning and the lighting was perfect for capturing the stillness of the lake and it's deep blue reflecting face. On the far side of this photo is Wizard Island and the colorful face of the crater rim is one of the geologically oldest parts of the crater. This is my favorite Crater Lake photo as the photo captures the unreal beauty of lake. Every time I look at this it still looks fake to me, but it is very much real and very much the way I saw it.

Stunning landscape image here! The symetry of the lines and the stillness of the reflection make this one a winner. I wonder though, about a slight crop of the top... removing the white, blown out clouds. Seems to put more emphasis on the mountain and reflection instead of pulling my eyes to the top left.
Still, colour and detail are again, amazing.
Thanks as well for so much background on the image and how you got to this point. I find it almost as intriging as looking at your images.
