About This is what you can see if you hike away from the "standard" touristy routes at Yellowstone Park. This was taken on a hike near Mammoth Hot Springs. I spent an entire afternoon in this area . Shooting in infrared just seemed perfectly appropriate for the cool trees and geothermal rock formations along this walk. This is one of my favorite shots from this trip.

Wow, very stunning image, I like your choice of IR, and this tree on the top of the rock is really cool. Nicely captured! 7/7

Hi Carol:

Just revisting your portfolio after a few weeks separation from UF and it seems this is one of those extraordinarily rare images that just gets better and better with time. Although the title is "Desolation," I somehow get a mystical sense from this image which is anything but desolate. Rather, it talks about the mysteries of life that are just below the surface, if only we take to the trouble to look and listen deeply enough. This mystical theme has always been lurking in your work, but it seems to have emerged with renewed energy in the past few weeks, making this visit especially rewarding. --Jim

One of my favorites, too, Carol. The IR alters this just enought to make the atmosphere other worldly while the subject is already deliciously strange. --Jim

I can totally see why this is one of your favorite shots. It's always fun to veer off the beaten path, plus, you will surely be rewarded with your efforts. Thanks for showing as a scene rarily seen. The b&w works well as do the chosen/unchosen weather conditions. Great job!

Doncha just love what infrared does to foliage?! Great shot, I clicked on it because I thought it was a classy composite but the medium and the subject make this natural image look vaguelly surreal. I haven't played with IR stock for a while, your shots has inspired me to dig out that roll of HIE I've had in the fridge for a while!

I don't know about desloate but its very surreal and otherworldly shown in IR. That tree growing out of the rock makes the shot.
