There's kind of a halo effect above the bird's head. Maybe it's intentional, but it's interesting. His expression is that of contentment.

This is a very good shot and you have done a great job capturing his expression with his eye, etc. I took a similar shot awhile back and had the same issue with the banding of the sky. (The wavy lines.) I used a digital camera. Good DOF! If you had a chance to do it again, you might consider having just a bit more space from the bottom of his bill to the bottom of the photo. Good job!
