I am addressing the statement that "the white mark is strange, if it wasn't there would it make the shot more clinical and normal".
All right, normal means standard, average, ordinary. I am riot against this kind of approach in art. I find the dialog here, the dialog between the sunny entity (white mark) and the kid clean out on well chosen patterned backdrop. Framing is a bit heavy IMO.

Nice composition and POV, the white mark is strange, if it wasn't there would it make the shot more clinical and normal. But as it is there across the photograph I think it makes the photograph more unique, a time snap shot of the moment and adds to the movement of the person.
