Location City -  Deadvlei
State -  SOUTHERN NAMIBIA
Country - Namibia   Namibia
About The sun painting the top part of the dune a flamy orange. Taken about 10 minutes after sunrise.

This part of Sossusvlei, according to scientific theory was cut off by moving (windblown) sanddunes from the rest of Sossusvlei about 900 years ago. The big camelthorn trees was approximately 600 - 700 years of age at that stage. Cut off from the regular water supply of the main wetland the trees all died. Due to the lack of moisture and the extreme temparatures the hardwood cores of the big trees were preserved and many of them are still standing - skeletons of their former glory though. I spent a whole day from before sunrise until late afternoon in this magical place - it was like stepping back into time. While taking photos of the many shapes and textures, I was trying to see this place as it was 900 years ago. Every here and there, along the edges and bottomslopes of the dunes, the water of the extraordinary rainy season of 2006 brought some bright green growth - small pieces of evidence of the former glory of this place! I stood in awe and did not want to go. One sure thing - I'm going back!

Hi Joggie,
I have been absent for a bit and have come back to have a look at all the additions in your portfolio, all stunning work. I just watched a programme on TV about photography tours to this location, I am thinking seriously about making the trip to this magic place.
It has been a pleasure once again looking through your images.

Regards
Peter.

I like this one. Looks very scifi, Joggie. Like an empty planet. An absolutely brilliant place. I can understand why you want to go back. Excellent comp and exposure. The colours are unique. Cheers, Ann.

This is awesome, your camera would have been working hard to meter for this, it is interesting to see how the base of the trees and the trunk laying over are exposed perfectly but the light that slightly blows out the top of the image silhouette the balance of the trees. The ochre coloured dunes against the light soils in the fg are stunning. What a beautiful place and enough to make any photographer drool and you have done it justice.

Regards
Peter.

Beautifully captured color combination, aparent contrast between layers of colors and the dramatic presence of the woods much like theatre artists set the mood of this photo. I like the use of color, light and dark shades and its a truly spectracular image you captured dear Joggie.

Wish you all the best.
Regards,
Bhabesh

This is an awesome scene so well captured, Joggie! I like your contrast of sun and shade. I hope not to seem petty by suggesting that you remove the straggler branch entering from the left margin.

I enjoyed your About. It really adds to my enjoyemnt of your lovely picture. It looks like a maarvelous place, indeed. The curving branches bring attention to all parts of this and demonstrate its character. The varying colours and lighting add intrigue. Beautiful. I know you put it in CC, but I am not sure what I could suggest.
