Excellent!

Your sharpness of this photograph is what made it score!!! Great choice of blending it to black and white. I bet the water was gross and murky. This helps eliminate that gross color.

Once again... excellent!

Oh, thanks, Chad, for your comments!

Mate, I convert my images to B&W using Photoshop. I just de-saturate the image, adjust the levels and contrast. That's about it - nothing too hard!

Great B&W shot here Phillip, dont suppose you would care to discuss your conversion technique, I am always trying to learn new tricks on creating stand out B&W and this one certainly stands out!

Wow Phil!

Amazing how well this takes charge in b/w! It's amazing!

The contrast is fantastic!!! I do like the color as well, just because of the painterly water reflections, and the brisk color tone (that I think helped out the gulls at the top), but this has such bold strength, and draws your eye all around the image.

Good job mate! awesome image once again!

cheers,
-Joel

Hugo, I appreciate your honesty and bluntness.....and, my goodness, you dish it out! :)))

You ought to know me by now, apart from the colourful glass ones, I'll always have a go at B&W conversions! :)) I can't help it - it's part of the addiction! :))

I'll keep the BIP now that I've got it! :)))

Hey Phil,

Congrats on yet another award. But in all fairness, I don't think this one really deserves one. I find the match with the project a bit far fetched, and I don't really see the need for a B&W version in this one either - the colour photo looks already good to me, although you do have much more creative and inspiring photos than these in your portfolio...

I'm sure you know what I mean...:)

Cheers,

Hugo

LOL , Congratulations on the award Phil, really really nice conversion. Did you try just leaving the eye's yellow and then convert the rest to black and white, that might be sublime. Either way this rocks, congrats, again.

Oh, thanks, again, Tony, for your comments!

This photo was taken at The Entrance ( http://www.theentrance.org/ ), in New South Wales. Aside from being known as a very lovely little sea-side resort, the place is very popular for its Pelicans. Each afternoon, at 3.00pm, a group of volunteers feed the Pelicans. A large group of unlookers converge on the seafront to witness the event.

We were visiting the area last weekend, so I took advantage of the situation and went down to the seafront to get some shots. We were lucky enough to get there early, so we had a front row position. They come so close, that they brush you with their wings as they conglomerate to be fed.

Cheers

To me the B&W is so much stronger. Great work, and a great capture. I hope you paid them well for their co-operation. They seem to be expecting breakfast. Congratulations on the BIP, Phil.
