About
Years ago I heard a very haunting song, female vocalist, no music accompaniment.. it was about how she had lost her child, who had drowned in the river when her back had been turned. To this day I have been unable to trace this song again... though the haunting melody stays with me (& the words, a shadow in my mind).
This photo, the darkness it holds, reminds me very much of that haunting melody.
If my explanation of the tune rings any bells with anyone please let me know... my search goes on.
I recognise the words at the end... definatley what I was thinking of.. though was a good few years ago I heard this... really wish I could remember where... maybe it was a live recording & the sound of her voice overpowered the music so I felt it had no more too it.. time is a good thing to play tricks on a mind... still... a very haunting song that really struck me when I heard it. Thank you once more (guess my intuition proved right that someone on here could help in my quest ) )
Mary I think you've cracked it! When I heard this song it was sang without any music... just female vocals & it was extremely haunting & beautiful.. though very sad.
It's been a long time since I heard it & the background music put me off at first.. though I recognise the lyrics now I'm listening to it once more. Not sure if it was PJ Harvey singing when I heard it... or maybe someone else (is there a cover version?)but this is definately the song I've been looking for... Thank you Mary )
There is a song by P J Harvey called 'Down By The Water" that has this theme--don't know if that's it or not. Something says this is no it, but, who knows? MAry
