Actually Jon this part of the creek borders the golf course west of the Lewvan and north of the tracks - in this shot I am facing west towards the golf course and RCMP depot. I walk down the bike path (from where I took this shot) a couple times a week and really enjoy walking beside the creek, even on cold days like this picture illustrates.

I surely do know about the poop machines I mean geese. But to my orientation you should be standing either on or at the Elphinstone bridge (facing west) , or (I think more likely) on the south side of the creek on or just in from the Pasqua bridge (facing east), which puts the golf course a ways up the other side of the tracks. LOL... sorry - I mean the Lewvan. :-]

Johnston Canyon! I love that place. Very good shot, although to me the long exposure makes it softer than it is, and takes away the pounding energy of the water. (So really - the only "problem" with the image is that it doesn't meet the preconceptions of the viewer - a bit like watching a good movie treatment of a well-loved book)

Very melancholy - I agree. Nice diffuse side-lighting giving faint highlights to the stones, and a certain amount of softness to add to the mood. The river in the background helps frame the main subject, but might be just a bit on the distracting side.

In response to the suggestion that it would work better in b&w, I converted it, pumped up the contrast a bit and burned the corners in lightly. I think the result is more sombre or perhaps dramatic than softly melancholy, so while it is a good shot in b&w it is not the same shot, IMO.

Nice composition but I think this shot would have had more character in B&W.

Hello Dubravko,

This picture is from a few years ago, I am currently using Fuji Velvia. While I still can get Kodachrome (though it is getting rare) I made the switch to Velvia simply because it now can take up to 6 weeks to get Kodachrome slides processed! A friend told me about Velvia and I've been happy with the results I get with it. Thanks for your comment.

Here is what I love about this photograph; in the forground you see the shape of the tunnel, and you see it again in the light at the end. In the middle you cannot see anything, but the perspective is still maintained because the shape of the tunnel is repeated at the end. Nice job.

Wow! The lighting almost transformed it into a photoart. It resembles very much with the river we see in the Harry Potter animation.
Great work Dennis.

Beautiful composition and such lovely colours Dennis. The Church is set so lonely amidst the vast field. It creates a very distictive mood.
Excellent saturation.
Best wishes.
