Marc -- Great capture! You can just see the joy and delight of discovery dancing in her young eyes. Love the shallow depth-of-field. Using it, you've managed to place emphasis on the emotion of the moment. Great work and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your recent images posted here.

Cheers,
-Mike.

Love that dark, moody sky! How long do you work a subject like this? I too often experience a magic moment shortly after I have put the camera away. Has experience taught you to better anticipate when/where the magic will be happening?

WOW!! Now this is the "Darlene Boucher" imagery we all like to see. Spectacular shot! Well isolated subject and great sharpness in all the critical features. The blurring of the wings simply adds power to the image. Congratulations on this wonderful image! Very well done!

Cheers,
-Mike.

Darlene -- It is a beautiful morning! Nice capture, too :)

I didn't think you owned anything smaller than a 600mm . . . Nice composition. I have yet to shoot a sunrise I'm happy with, so it's good to view yours. Keep smiling!

Cheers,
-Mike.

Great capture! Love the texture in this scene. I spent a moment in indecision about the base of the trees at the top of the frame. I kept rolling the image up to hide them and back down to reveal them. Just when I thought I liked it better w/out, I changed my mind . . . I think they add a nice spice (read contrast) to the image. Well seen and well executed.

p.s. Congrats on the awards!

Marc -- Great image! The tonal range is spectacular. I would add to what Drew B. said, this image not only demands attention due to your composition of the elements, but also due to the contrast in the tonal range. Glad to see you won the BIP for this one.

Cheers,
-Mike

p.s. Congratulations on your recent sale to Outdoor Photographer magazine. I was delighted to find your work there.

I’m jealous! I love Zion National Park. I’ve spent a great deal of time there, over the years. Never disappointing. I haven’t had my Zion fix this year, so thanks for sharing this lovely image. It’s interesting how we all see things so differently. I’ve stood in this same area, yet never “saw” this picture. Good on you for seeing it, capturing it, and sharing it. Great image!

Paul -- Nice lighting on her face. Still enough shadow on the left side of her face to keep things interesting. I like the separation you achieved by placing her in front of the white part of the structure.

Ade -- Or you could have called it, Fire Walker . . . Great image. The centered subject works really well, here. I tried to envision the guy on either the left or right of center, but think it works best as you’ve presented it. As usual, good work.

Pat -- Great stuff! What fun you must have had. I've found that shooting sports action can really sharpen your game (excuse the pun). Were you shooting from a monopod?

Michael – This is a nice wash of yellow! That placement of the contrasting, soft green near the upper-left third was a nice, strategic move. It really strengthens the image. Good job, and congratulations on the award!

I like the way you’ve managed to isolate these leaves against a nondescript, dark background. Combined with the backlighting on the subject leaf, it really punches up the interest in this image. I also like Cleveland Smith's idea. This would better isolate that solitary subject leaf and better rivet the viewer's attention on the intricate veining revealed in that leaf by the backlighting. Overall, I like this image. Good work.

This is a very pleasing silhouette. Simple elements well controlled. I particularly like the placement of the rider against the thin wisp of cloud. The posture of the rider and horse coupled with the upward slope of the hill gives us a sense of tension. This adds to the success of the image. Well done.

-Mike.

Wow! That was my first thought after popping this image open. The colors just reached out and grabbed me! It’s a very nice contrast in color and texture. Late light can do magical things to a landscape. Your composition is masterful. There’s a nice “C” curve and division of compositional elements. All lines lead the eyes into the photograph towards the golden light on the cliff-face. Congratulations on the BIP. Well deserved for this stellar image. Into my favorites!

Regards,
-Mike.

Pay dirt! It was definitely worth the stop. Seems that’s the way it goes. Mother Nature tests the photographer’s mettle by showing us her best after we’ve stowed our gear away. Sun light reflection in the lake looks a little hot. Nice use of foreground elements to add depth – just the right amount. This is a very pleasing image. Well done, and congratulations on the BIP!

-Mike.

Naomi -- What an interesting setup. You couldn't have planned it any better! Almost like it had been choreographed. That's so much of the fun I find in photography: looking for that magic moment when perspective meets timing.
