I think the shadow doesn't detract andadds a darker texture to the back of the flower. I think this works well in B&W and the lighting is effective to convey a subtle feeling.

Cheers,
Chris

This is what I would consider to be true fine art photography... technically perfect, the composition and lighting couldn't be better, it has a great sense of depth, and most important to me it looks realistic, almost like you're standing right there.

Congrats,
Chris

Hi Pat, thanks for your in-depth comment.

With my dSLR, I can use a bulb setting which will allow me to leave the lens open as long as I want... however, after 2-5 minutes, the exposures become unusable, due to the heat generated causeing excess noise in the image, even at low ISO speeds. With film, this isn't a problem and 1-2 hour exposures beome possible.

I also agree with your setiments on the ocean... I think it is that primal connection to a force that while it's constantly changing, also has remained the same for thousands of years. There is something about just being alone next to the ocean early in the morning that is very grounding and humbling.

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Rob - I'm sure the print looks perfect. I'm usually beholden to the printed page as well, so I'm always adjusting for prints, and then sometimes the web uploads might look too high-contrast or saturated.

It must be fun to shoot w/ the 5D - I'm thinking about that or the 20D in the near future,

Cheers,
Chris

Nice work Rob, seems abit oversaturated at the horizon, but the sky/clouds looks great, esp. their movement and reflection.

Looks like it really is an amazing place, good interesting foreground as well,

Hey Tim thanks for the in-depth comment.

I've had one sailing photo for a magazine cover so far, so I'm pretty happy... I just need an inflatable power boat so I can get out on the water any time I want!

You have some nice work, welcome to UF and I'll be glad to see you post more.

This has nice long DOF as well as an interesting cloud pattern that frames the boat nicely.

The muted colors also work well, and the wide 10-22mm lens provided an optimum view of this coastline,

Nice sky, looks like flat lighting but still an effective photo. The lead in lines of the wall work well, and the hil in the background helps to add depth,

I like the colors to this, but it appears abit soft? Also, a little tilted to the right, but that's minor in comparsion to the great sky and coastline,

Thanks Shannon, I wish there was a way to really convey how it feels to show this boat blow past you at nearly 20 knots... almost out of control I guess?

And the sound of the boom shifting is like a dozen trees being split in half at the same time.

nice scene, looks like it was high contrast light? I could see this with subtle orange/yellowish soft lighting.

Nice feeling, like the deep blues and white. The way the path to the left fades off is nice,

The moons seems abit large and off color for this position so low to the horizon. Overall looks good, I would just lessen the size of it abit and perhaps add just a touch of yellow/orange to it,

Chris

Nice simple composition, with cood light and colors. The layering of colors from the sky down works well.

Thanks for any comments... always appreciated.

Also, these seem like they would be no brainer shots - some of the most impressive boats on the water - but getting these photos to be sharp and well exposed is not so easy. These were very choppy waters, and we're always moving one way or another, with numerous boats all around you.

Alot of credit should go to the chase boat driver, who had nerves of steel, and would bring us within 10-15 ft. of some of these boats.

Hi Charlotte, the upload is on the small side, but from what I can see this looks like a great area for photography.

The sky looks good with nice blues and good puffy white clouds. A polarizer could have helped to increase the color saturation and darken the blues in the sky.

Also, you could have maybe found a portion of the island where there was more interest in the foreground, and maybe something taht leads your eye off into the distance?

Cheers,
Chris

Good grab, a minor levels tweak in PS to bring the highlights up a bit would make a huge difference.
