Hi Phil,

I like the lighting in this photo with the subtle highlights, works very well. Good concept, too. The text in the top right is a bit intrusive in the composition, IMO, and I think applying it more subtle, or leaving it out all together, would make the image stronger, I believe.

Interesting photo, nicely captured.

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi John,

The people are on the opposite platform; doubt if you could create a reflection in the windows of a passing train, let alone one without me in the picture:)

Heheheh. Hi Petros!

Can only say that for stock, there are too many recognisable people and the image lacks quality....

I do appreciate the way of looking at the negative space on top and bottom - never considered that - yet, I do like the depth created by the beams on top and the tiles in front. But yes, I happily admit the stock element is there.

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Manu, Very expressive and almost caricatural portrait. The right (his left) eyebrow adds to the story. Nice addition to the series.

Hi John

Hurricane Ridge... Awesome scenery, A pity I had to miss it after stopping at Lake Cresent, leaving from Neah Bay to Port Angeles.... I like the depth in this photo. A fine photo!

Hey Sal,

Just got back from a long time of absence, and browsed to see what you've been upto. This photo definitely stood out, what a fabulous expression, (eventhough that wasn't your timing by the look of the details such as the signalling light and the wheel), and the sheer illusion of the scale makes it a very intriguing photo. Very well captured!

Ha Riny,

Nice to hear from you! I don't have one with a very high shutter speed, because there wasn't enough light, and it would've just frozen the train, and that's not the result I wanted to achieve. The primary subject isn't the metro, it's the group of people, IMO.

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Eb,

Yes, very much improved, indeed. The subtle tonal differences in the trees add a lot of depth in the shore line region. Good stuff!

Hi Mike,

Very nice to see what you've been upto. Your panos have always been impressive, and I do like this one, too. Also, the IR HDR is spotless. Looks like you've had your hands full, too, as this is your latest uploads, dating back to July...

I still have to reply to your email, and I will...

Hi Eb,

Yep, I'd say that's just about spot on; any fiercer post processing and you'd probably get all sorts of defects in image quailty I like how the lighter tone of the haze also accents the elevation above the water, if you know what I mean. Be careful with the halo around the mountains, though.

Cheers,

Hey Manu,

How's life? I see you've also slowed down a bit on UF... I like the intensity in this portrait; very gripping, good shot.

Hi Daniel,

The low point of view is great; as is the near perfect mirror; dividing the image pane into two. Nice shot, and well exposed.

Hi Rob,

Nice nightscene. But as the foreground is a bit underexposed, lacking details in the shadows, I think cropping a strip off the lower side of the image will concise the view, and strengthen the composition. Nice shot, though.

Hi Eb,

I like the tranquility in this scene, and believe both processing as well as image format make this image stronger than version 1; also, the slightly increased lighting on the shoreline is an improvement.

Despite the slight haze, obscuring the view, I think playing with the levels / curves on the highlights / midtones a bit more could create a more crisp feel, which might benefit the atmosphere. It looks a tad mucky as is, if you know what I mean.

Cheers,

Hi Leo,

Excellent atmosphere, the pale, low contrast scene sketches a spooky mood. I'd only remove a bit of the grain, as I believe it would even push the atmosphere a tad more. Nevertheless a very fine photo.

Hi JP,

Just surfed back to your portfolio to see the previous image, and I prefer this one. The square composition, as well as the composition grab the attention. The emptiness makes it rather strong.

I do think, the level of postprocessing reduces the image quality, affecting the appeal of the image rather severely. With some simple masking techniques, the halo between the edge of the hill and the mountains in the rear could've been prevented, giving it a more natural look.

Also, I think the lack of detail in the shadows is distracting, and the rather blotched quality reduces - again - the appeal of this image. I guess you were trying to revive the tones and details in the hills, causing a lot of artifacts, even visible at this reduced size.

Then the sky - the gradient is nice, and I do like the balance of colours, matching the fields in front. Yet, I think a deeper blue tone in the sky on top would add more punch to the photo.

None of these things alone would bother me, as they may well fit within the scope of "artistic freedom" but combined, I feel they degrade the image a tad too much.

Cheers,

Hugo

Spectacular cloudscape. I like the high saturation of the warm tones, but I do believe playing with the levels a bit more could give it that little extra punch it needs.

Spectacular image; very well done. Curious how you managed to get such long startrails at only one minute. Also, I'm curious what a 100% magnification of this image looks like in terms of noise. Presuming the exposure was a lot longer (45 minutes?) I'd like to see the level of noise. Did you have to do a lot of postprocessing on this photo?

Very good conceptual photo. I like that people can add their own story and / or meaning to this photo. That's what makes it powerful.

Maybe just a snap, but also a beautiful setting, and good diagonal comp. Wish there was just an additional patch of light through the trees in the foreground.

How've you been? Trust everything is OK. I really like this photo, gloomy and powerful. Maybe a tad too dark in the shadows, but I think the hard contrast works well.

hi Anton,

Strong pose, and a dynamic lighting set up; pretty professional.

The eyes, although pretty piercing and effective in drawing the viewer's attention are perhaps a bit too dark and heavy on the make-up for my taste, but that's subjective.

Cheers,

hugo
