This is very cool... reminds me of a perspective puzzle. Are the lines on the outside, or inside? My mind can't figure it out. Great abstract!

I don't think I'd seen this one before... I like the stump... it reminds me of an animal coming out of the water. (maybe a sea lion?) I agree about cropping the tiny bit of sky in the top right... keep it more uniformly green.

hahaha, LOVE the title! And your goldens are so cute. (and a little toy crazy!) Awesome details in the dogs and the toy... I know exactly where I am supposed to look!

The detail in this is amazing... and I like how the drops pull my eye from one corner to the next. At first I thought it was a little too dark, but it's grown on me. Interesting shades!

If there is any way to get her further from the background it would blur the sheet so you wouldn't see the wrinkles and make for a smooth bg.
She looks like a cutie!

The colours really pop here... and what a great capture of something that not many people have seen in their lives.

I love the skies after a storm has passed through... you get such wonderfully saturated colours! This has an almost watercolour feel to it. It really stands out as an unique landscape.
Great framing with the trees on the right... balances out the interesting scene of the left.

A really interesting series of lines and contrast you have in your portfolio... this one really jumped out at me. I love the soft curve of the lines and the deep blacks mixed with the bright white. Great tone!

Hey Mary Sue...
Touching base at Usefilm and I see that you haven't posted recent pics... are you posting somewhere else?
As for this shot, reading yours and Steve's interaction I see that you already know what I'm going to say. Weird that it uploaded so soft, when it obviously doesn't look like this on your computer.
Hope you are well!

This is totally a golden moment. Looking absolutely adorable and goofy at the same time. Love the depth of field and focus is spot on!

Hi Mary Sue,
Thanks so much for your comments on my Pumpkin Pose shot with my new son... life has become chaotic in a good way, and I am trying to capture as much of it on film that I can!

This shot has a lot of dynamic power to me... the colours pop, the contrasts of oranges and greens are wonderful and the lighting is perfect. Was this shot outdoors, or indoors? The foliage in the bg is great because it's not uniformly green... there are darker and lighter spots throughout which make it seem so natural.

Hey Toni! Good to hear from you again... glad to see that you are still shooting as well. Can't wait to see some horse racing shots! It sounds dynamic!
Love the sense of motion and action in this shot... the blur is just enough to add power but I can still see detail. Great colour!

Very dynamic landscape, and it works nicely in black and white. I like the overall effect of the grain, but think that it's maybe a bit too much in the sky. the grain draws my eye away from the great lines of the image .

Hi Dave! Thanks for your comment a month or two ago on my Golden Puppy shots... they were a blast to photograph, but hard to come home without any more!
I haven't really been on Usefilm much since last year... life is just too busy right now, and my photography has taken a back seat. Who knows, with summer on its way maybe I'll pick it back up again.
I love the repeating patterns in this shot.. the lines of the lampshade really draw me in, and make me take a closer look at the colours and shapes. Love the title too... it looks like an eye, albeit an alien one!

I like the perspective as well, and the graphic quality of this image. I wish that the top of the bottle was super sharp though... it wouldn't matter then if the focus fell of completely at the bottom , but my eye is searching for something tack sharp to anchor on. (love the shadow!)

Just a bit windy, eh? *hahahaha* I'm a sucker for dog shots, and this is just too cute. I wish it were a little sharper... perhaps a higher shutter speed would have helped to freeze that cute face.
I like the framing, and the fact that the dog has looking room in front of its nose... makes me wonder what's running through its mind!

Great colours in this image... they really pull me into the image. I find the bottom of the image a little cluttered though... too busy for all the great colours and simplicity that her smile brings. Perhaps if you had gotten a little tighter and focused more on her (medium shot) and the bottle of wine in her hand. You'd still get that great colour behind her as well.

Great placement of the seagull on the post... it's close to the centre of the frame, but enough to the left to strengthen the image. I was wondering if cropping a little more of the left would make it stronger, putting the bird on the point of power (rule of thirds) but then you lose the ducks in the water... and they really add to the image as well.
Love the light... nice warm tones.

Beautiful sharpness, Dave... you captured a really great pose and some beautiful landscape around the bird. (glad to see there's still some other Velvia lovers out there!)

Did you get a new camera, Mary Sue? The colours are great... green and yellow are always such a great combo! Weird for me to see sunflowers in December! (although I was outside today and saw that a new rose had flowered! Vancouver weather is so weird!)

I'm not sure how much I'll be on Usefilm in the next week, so I thought I would stop by and wish you a Merry Christmas! Lots has been going on in the past few months and I haven't had a chance to visit. Happy Holidays and I wish you and your family a wonderful new year! (filled with many new, creative photographic explorations!)

Love the angle in this image... gives the building such a feeling of power (and overpowering!) The black and white is a nice bold choice as well... very stark.

Just an update... this image made it into the November issue of PhotoLife, a Canadian based magazine... my first publication! Very exciting!
Thanks to everyone who commented... I'm off again today to take more puppy shots.
Cheers and Happy Holidays!

The colour punch from the thumbnail drew me in... great patterns and punch! I think by using a polarising filter you could have reduced some of the light glare on the top left though, and really added more strength. ALthough you were working with extension tubes, I think that a little more DOF to pull that top left into complete sharpness would have been nice too.

Where in Canada are you? This looks like somewhere I wish I was... I can feel the coldness through your image! Nice tight framing, and good use of light on the face.

Nice action shot... it's sometimes hard to grab that perfect moment when using film (I know! I spent a roll on mountain bike shots to have only 5-6 utrn out!)
I would clone out the lights in the bg, though... they tend to grab my attention away from the skater.

Get the 19-35 mm Tokina... it will open up so much for sport photography. You can get some super interesting angles with it.
Best of luck,
Kim

Hey Dave,
Thanks for the comment... my family has been going through a tough time with some deaths... I've been too busy traveling back and forth to visit Usefilm, and haven't been in the mood to post lately. Now with Christmas only a month away (and my Photoshop deciding now is the perfect time to crash) it looks like it will be a while longer before I come back.
Thanks for wondering though!

Nice close shot of the "kid"... great detail in the fur, and sharpness in the eyes. Perfect timing while he was posing in the flowers!

To me this has a very omnious feel... rusty nails and dried blood. Interesting to read in your comment that this was a WWII bunker... it just adds to the haunting feel.
Wonderfully seen capture... the colours jump from the screen.
