Great shot, Herman. I love the silhouettes and especially the cranes in the background. It's almost like opposites, the beach and horses, followed by stark industrial view.. very interesting.

Best wishes,
Dave

Aspargesbed- great shot with these even lines ending in the row of tress providing another line and texture in the photo. You´ve a very good portfolio.
Best wishes

Prachtig, dat kleurenpalet op de grond, de zijwaarts uitwaaierende takken (door de wind zeker gevormd) .. mooi gezien, vanaf de thumbnail leek het wel een impressionistisch schilderij !
Vriendelijke groeten, Peter

Beautiful photo Hermen. Besides the acid rain at least you had snow a Christmas.

Very nice shot, Hermen. Without reading your "about" I would have thought this was a burn area that is starting to regenerate. Quite sad to read the real cause of the dead trees. Nice lighting with the darker clouds. Cheers, Gary

Hi Maarten, thanks for your comment! I agree that the image would be stronger without the man. Because it was so crowded, I had to take this more or less haphazardly, with the zoom at the widest angle and the camera far above my head. So I could not really time it. But it is something to bear in mind for next year... To be on time and get a good position. I am sure there will be some people who'll take a similar pose again

The best of the series. A pity that the guy is walking into the scene. Would be a stronger image with only the balloon and the girl. Good composition.

Hi Dave,

thank you for your taking the time to review my image, and for your suggestion. I spent only a limited amount of time on the climbers when visiting this site (after all, I'd wish I had spent more...) I did not take the close-up, but I think the original shot is sharp enough to perform a 'digital zoom' to get an impression of how it would look like, see attached image.

Interesting pose she has going on. While the overall view of the scene presents her challenge and the scope of the facility, I also think this would make a very interesting close-up of just her on the wall, with her being offset from the center.

Best wishes,
Dave

Hi Marco,

thanks for your comment. This was a backlit shot, I had to do some PS work to lighten the figures in the foreground. The two did actually stand there; at Kinderdijk, there is one mill that has been thrown open to the public, and they belonged to the staff

Hi Hermen, Always a pleasure to see another one of your photos. It can't get more Dutch than this - timeless and (despite the geographical mismatch) a "schippers van de Kameleon" feel... A classic image, and well composed. The path creates a nice leading line from lower left to right middle, and back to the horizon on the left, including all aspects of this scene.

There's something odd about this photo, though. Not sure what it is. The best I can come up with is the asphalt, where one would expect a dirt path. Nothing to be done about that, of course.

I like the two guys in the foreground, they create a very strong eye catcher, and even though they absorb most of th attention, there's enough space around them for the viewer to admire the other parts. Very good shot...

Cheers,

hugo

Very well composed shot. The colors look great though it seems to be a cloudy sky with no direct sunlight. The different fences on different angles and distances really help bring depth in this picture, also do the two men in the foreground. Typically dutch image, farmers with their wooden shoes and a simple hat, and in the background the mills... Well done. Did the two actually stand there, or did you ask them (or even bring them...)??

This is a lovely rural scene, or travel shot. Well composed with an amazing sky, it suits balack and white well. Thanks for the background information also.
