I like the shot except for the flare which seems to distract a bit.

Hi Dan, thanks for stopping by. I actually think keeping a bit more of space in the foreground would work in a sense that the fg is not too "on the face" type and lead the eyes smoothly across the scene.

Hi Stef, to get fg and bg perfectly exposed, you need grad filters. I have used 2-stops here. a CPL was useful to cut down the glare from the water.

adode gamma is the worst calibration possible, frankly :-) basically, s/w only calibration doesn't just work. I have gone through all these a while back and then just gave up.

Thank you Anindya. well, it depends on what kind of monitor you are viewing. normally, factory setting are too high, if you compare with the prints. the brighter the monitor, the more tone down it would have been required, but then again I would have metered differently. yes, this is a problem with digital imaging :-)

a very fine work. the corner vignetting looks a bit uneven though but that does not retract anything from the shot.

Brigitte, thanks for stopping by. appreciate your comments very much. i have been doing B&W for long, if you get a chance to look at my previous uploads. from my limited experience, i have seen that there are certain times when B&W shoots the natural emotion more well then color. B&W is very powerful and does not taken away anything that color can produce. I don't have fascination one over the other, its just that there are certain times when I pre-conceive a B&W image before recording it. honestly, this one is an exception and I never thought after converting it to B&W, I would feel the same mood atmosphere when I was standing there :-)
