She is encapsulated, disembodied and faded. Traveling somewhere. How odd and mysterious. Is that a car or a Flash Gordon space ship. I wanna know who, where, why. . . .

Hi Kristupa, I saw this in randoms. Isn't it fun to shoot up? This one though seems too heavy because there is so much of the trunk and not enough branches, sky, breathing room in my opinion. Instead of feeling the tree flying away from me, I feel that the tree is just imponderably heavy. (of course in reality it is....)

Saw this in randoms and like it as well. It does seem to lack life in the tones however and perhaps more local contrast would give it more life. Perhaps a shot for an unsharp mask or some reworking with dodging and burning. I really like the composition and the repeated columns and think this would make a great print with some tweaking...

Hi Samuel. Saw this one in randoms. Like the idea, but image seems too high key to me. I would like to see it printed darker at least to the point of the sky being differentiated from the white background. If the black area to the right gets too heavy, you could dodge this or crop it out.

Saw this image in randoms. Really like the close up jugs and the train in the background, but there are so many details in the midground, that I find the image confusing. I think there is a stronger picture here, but perhaps from a different vantage point.

I find this picture very hard to look at. I think for me it is the very highly detailed sky fighting with the very grainy and textured foreground that gives my eye no place to rest. I don't know what the focus of the picture is, possibly because I have trouble differentiating the demarcation of the horizon. Thought I would just present a contrary opinion for the sake of good discussion!

I like the interesting angle and diagonal lines, but the exposure of the print seems to light to me. Perhaps at least edge burning on the top and the left sides would draw the eye back into the center of the picture and not let it bleed out to white at the borders. Whatya think?

Like the subject matter, but the composition doesn't grab me. Maybe it is the split screen effect with the balck area to the right and the window area to the left and the top of the bottle cut off. Perhaps a different angle. I too like this type of subject matter!

I really like just the amount of blur you have selected in this scene. It feels shaky to me which really makes me feel the turbulence of the water which adds to the feeling I have that the island in the back is isolated and maybe unreachable because of the violence of the water. I get an emotional reaction to the scene and like the dark tones of the rocks and castle which adds to the ominous feeling I get here. Thanks for the nice image!

Hi Anne,
I find this one confusing in that there are so many lines and forms with nothing dominant for my eye to settle on. As a documentary it is interesting, but as an art composition I would like to see some more select element of this scene isolated so that I could see a stronger composition or play of light. I enjoy watching your posts!

Beautiful tones, capture of the play of light, and balance of the massively heavy bowl and the delicate light bubbles. I think the heavy black shape in the upper right is critical to balance off that huge bowel shape and then the light area in the lower right can display those bubbles. Well done...

I have been intrigued by this picture. The central placement of the building both right/left AND top/bottom makes it so static and with the placement high in the frame, the building doesn't seem heavy enough for me. There is a lot of foreground and I don't know how much it contributes to the picture though I do like the forms over to the right. Soooo, I played around with cropping and have included an example here. What do you think? I like the picture; I'm just trying to see if it can be made stronger...

Really interesting forms. The print strikes me as flat, even knowing that the tones are all somewhat similar on the location. What do you think about pumping up the contrast a bit. I think a few rich blacks would make this fine picture sing!

I like the transition from the outside of the photo with its random rough rock-work through the organized texture of the bricks to the lighter pattern of the "rays" to the creamy refinement of the marble statue. I think also this transition from rough and disorganized to smooth and refined gives double emphsis to the subject of the Mary and what she may stand for for believers. I think this makes what at first glance looks like a straight documentation, actually be quite a strong image which holds my attention. Also the tones are well done. Nice job!

I agree, the smooth liquidy feel of the eyelet makes me want to rub it because it looks so slick next to all the rough textures. Almost looks like a candy. Also I like how non-identifiable the picture is so I can respond to it rather than what it is "of". Perhaps for this reason a more ambiguous title would be fun...

I would agree with the last post. The title really caught me off guard. My reaction was "huge bulging package". I really like the photo, but I agree that the mood it evokes in me is dark, moody, mysterious, perhaps sad. Had the title not been there, I probably would have just appreciated the photo. BUT, there is another way to look at this I suppose. Maybe if you had a series like this, all with ironic titles, then the series would really make the viewer think about preconceptions (terrible pun) of pregnancy and the emotions around it. Would love to hear about your intentions with this arresting photo!

Hi Joe, I like this shot! Nice lines and composition. Wish it was larger so I could see it better. Some areas also seem burnt out. Is all of this because of the size of the file that this camera makes? Could you have increased size and played with levels in a photo program? Still remember your girl on stage shot!

I too like what you have done with all the lines of the bricks and the house siding contrasted against the soft round cruves of the jug. I also agree that the cropping could be improved. Maybe better to either crop hard into the jug if that is what you want, or better yet, give it more breathing space. When objects just touch or slightly drift outside it can be jangling to the eye. Thanks for sharing this picture!

Definitely dramatic and qiute striking. Three different directions of lines though leave me a bit dizzy. I wonder if there is another angle to simplify up the composition? Perhaps a more straight ahead shot somewhere in all of this pattern. Just some thoughts. Boy I can see why you were attracted to this...
