Hi mike, sorry its taken me so long to reply to you!!

With regard to the framing, i might have just angled the camera a little to straighten everything up.

Bear in mind though im a serious newbie, so its just my opinion!!!

Hows the ME Super going??

Regards

Strange isn't it? I also found it odd that my picture was added after several other pictures that had already been submitted before I'd uploaded mine. It was about halfway down the page, instead of at the top... Curious, eh?

As for the curves, I agree - a levels adjustment and some blurring in the grainy areas would've improved it alot - and I was tempted to do so, but I decided against 'Photoshopping' it at the last minute, in the hope that people would be able to give me hints on how to improve the initial shot itself so it wouldn't need PS in the first place (or at least not as much .

Thanks again for taking the time to look and comment, I really appreciate it, and I also am glad I got a chance to see your portfolio - well done.

Look at that, two night shots side by side...

WEll done. my only critique is to adjust your curves a tad. Reduce the milky black to balck...

IMHO

Hey, Wez! Thanks for taking the time to look and comment on my picture. I also recieved my pentax from a family member (one of my uncles), who gave it too me when he heard that I was getting interested in photography and planning on taking a course where I would need a 35mm film camera, and I've really been enjoying learning to use it. Also, if you don't mind, out of curiosity - what would you have done differently in framing the shot? Just wondering. At any rate, thanks again for taking the time to look, and also for giving me a chance to see your portfolio - rather impressive.

Hey Mike, its a good shot, allmost a great one! I think your framing could have been slightly better, but we cant have everything all the time eh!
Glad to see your shooting with an old ME. I have one myself that my father handed to me about 10 years ago, and since ive gone digital its stayed in the bag. I really should get it out and start using it. Theres nothing like a good old manual focus film camera for learning techniques. Keep up the good work!

very soft light contributes to the dreamy atmosphere of the image.... it's perfectly balanced. I can see why you like it so much.

This is a magical and unusual image and perspective with all those branches turning into a ceiling of spider web.....it is as if it's taken from the movie "Road To Perdition".....that lonely road and the same kind of pale colors as though something was holding back the intensity of these colors

unique perspective! it is a classic also very well composed. the little tree on the left specifies the long distance. I really like this.

Hey Michael, I like this... I feel like your showing a great place to sit or just take in the view and relax. Given the lighting up in the right hand corner, your film speed 400, you didn't need film that "fast' 400 is kinda for darker moments. for the shot you took. You could've used iso 100 or 50 film maybe. The kind of film you use makes a really big difference. I found this out too, if you take it to a place to get a CD, they make adjustment's on your picture, so you have to ask them to leave it alone. Just found this out too, slide film they cant change it, the way you shot it is the way you get it back. That's what I am doing now trying to learn to see what I take. Kodak makes Ultra Color 100 and AGFA makes a really saturated color 100 too, that is a fair price. I would say experiment with film brand's and types and find what YOU like. If this is a place you can get to easily go back and try different films and see the changes and differences. or any place for that matter. All the film brands have web pages for their films it's a good read. Hope this helps.

It looks like the way you framed it the Sears tower is giving a speech and all of the other building's seem to be clamoring to get close and hear. Beautiful morning shot.

Thanks, Dan. I love Chicago, and I'm hoping to return with my youth group in the fall, if I can afford the time off. It's such an amazing city with so much to offer - I could easily spend all day walking up and down Michigan Avenue - among the many other amazing sites the city hosts.

Thank you very much Ian (and all of the others that have commented), I really appreciate all of the support found here. I really look forward to submitting more images in the future. I've just about used up my first roll of film on my ME Super (Kodak MAX Versatility, 400 colour film), and I can't wait to get it developed. Right now I'm mostly just guessing at f-stops and exposure settings (leaving it on 'Auto' mostly, until I learn how to set it more on my own), but I'm hopefull that many of them should still turn out well. Thank you again, Michael.

Hi Michael, this has so much serenity and good karma, she is sitting in a way you only seem to see students do! I like how she has chosen the natural spotlight to illuminate her work and the implication that is more uplifting than slaving under a lamp. You will love the ME Super, one of the best ever, recommend get another body off eBay as back up and to run maybe a faster film through for when you need it. Also find a good repairman in your area. A great decision to learn the ropes with a manual film camera, as you participate on here don't get phased by the odd shot which fails to hit the spot, there will be many and it doesn't make them bad. Shoot for you, then if others like it that's great. You clearly have the motivation and the eye so, with a great camera, and maybe access to a film/slide scanner and a bit of software skill, we should see interesting results. Thanks so much for your insightful comment too, appreciated. Cheers, Ian

Nice image. Maybe because of the digital and resolution and the light, the leaf almost appears to be floating above the sand. The texture of the sand is great.
