I love bird-photos and this one, in which it's semi-camouflaged and yet plainly visble in particular. I was busy the last few days translting a colleague's work from English to Hebrew anf that's why I thank you just today for your very kind commends on my photos. Warm regards. Rafael

This is our first, but hopefully not last meeting on the pages of UF. Going through your portfolio will take me some time, so first I would like to comment that receiving a positive comment from someone with your artistic background is an honor. I chose the above photo to comment on because I found the blend of browns, in which nevertheless the artist is not lost, very appealing. Artist and background complement each other. Thank you fot your kind comment on my photo. Regards, Rafael

Then it is amazing, György, since I would say (from the image) that the street is perhaps 200 meters from here up to the buildings in the background! Amazing because the effect combines so seemlessly with the image that my eyes don't see it at all. It just looks like a very natural perspective to me, which makes it even more interesting since the very tele-effect itself can also be perceived as a non-compressed attitude into the depth.
In addition: The DoF gets even more impressive under the conditions of a tele that normally would rather limit it. I see the people on the foreground a bit out of focus but this looks really very little in comparison to the rest of it!
Even more interesting than I though!
Nick

Nick, if you knew how long this street is and how far I was when I shot this pic, you would appreciate the "tele-effect" :)
Cheers, Gyorgy

I don't agree with you on this point, Nick. Photoart (and the technical capabilities of Photoshop) give you the possibility to follow your inspiration. Like a sculptor, who, from an ugly piece of stone or wood can make a beautiful artwork. Photography has never been simply documentary, a faithful rendering of "reality" as some say. As long as my pic brings out something of the personality of the subject (in this case the English poet) - and I think it does - my image manipulation should be legitimate. Anyway, many thanks for raising this question which points toward the heart of photography and art. Warm regards, Gyorgy

You got the action and the dedication of the musicians very very well and very very strongly expressive here, György! The quiet consistency of the color palette matches the lighting of the exposure and generates a good tension against the playing members of the band. The details of the equipment and the presence of the heads of the fans on the foreground make it directly visible that it has to be a concert, it has to be live! I am astonished by the fact that the face expression of the pianist is still so strong in his dedication and agony, even under conditions of motion blurring!
Cheers!

The light is impossible to oversse here, György, and it gets right into the sould of this image.
About the "strong tele-effect"... where is that? There is no flattening of the depth, no compressing of the perspective. It has more the essence of a wide angle to me, no matter of used lens. The latter still remains a small mystery to me. What was that lens exactly?
Cheers!
Nick

Hmm... I would say then, that there is no point in making "succesful" an image that was unsuccesfully shot, György, since it doesn't represent any vision one had at shooting time. If we start beautifying images after the shot, then all images are great, and we are all great photographers no matter what we shoot. Which would of course be absurd.
Anyway, you decide for yourself.
Cheers!
Nick
