thanks for the comment. this was part of some pretty experimental shots, all more or less spur of the moment while digging through an abandoned apartment complex. there was no electricity, so my only light was the flashlight, which is the round thing on the ground in this image, lighting the chair in the back and the dirty floor. i didn't want a real clear focus, and shot with a fast iso to add grain, but i think the lack of focus throughout takes away from it. thanks again.

Bryan, thanks for the comment. chaos was more or less my intention with this one, something strange, blurred, and a little creepy. i think the lack of focus throughout takes away a lot from it though. in this case it may be too much, but i hope you don't have the notion that a photo needs to be in focus and nice and clear. maybe a snapshot, but there are many times when focus is not the desire or the end result. in my case i think it doesn't work very though. thanks for the comment.

Interesting yet strange view. Keep puzzling how it all fits together. Mysterious shot!

Curtis, this is a real chaos photo. the round thing in the corner is pretty distracting. I think it really needs more sharpness and better framing, and less exposure. Keep shooting.

thanks Larry. in my portfolio towards the end there is another version of this photo, which I think actually is more effective. it's a horizontal shot, and the subject and the tree are seperated, and the clouds are exposed better. thanks for the comment.

yea i personally go for the bw version also. i like the color here because it 'warms it up' and really gives it 'life', but i still think the bw pushes the light pattern more and in a more abstract sense. thanks for the comments.

For me this is a nice shot! Wonderful perspective, although I want to see more clouds, but like you said, it's as it is... so this is a beauty!

Stark yes, but I also like the tension created by her presence and how she has placed herself. To think of it, I don't see stark as anything bad or negative, it just is. Sometimes one wants it or wants to be in it.

Thanks for the comment. you may be right on the too stark, it's something i myself have never really decided. sometimes i like it as it is and as i shot it, going for stark angles, perspective, and punchy contrast. other times it seems too much. who knows, but thanks for the comment.

thanks for the comments. lately i have been doing a lot of interior shots in my apartment. i'm on a topfloor old studio and the windows are great, letting in light from everywhere. i've done a few more conceptual series using all natural light but controlling it with the blinds and stuff and having a lot of fun with it. soon i'll get to scanning negatives and putting on newer stuff. all of this previous stuff is from the spring of 2003 and before.

I also like to do interiors. Somehow, at least to me, I can get impressions on who lives there from the photographer's point of view. The lighting possibilities are numerous and often unpredictable. You find subjects to photograph almost anywhere, and that's a sign of a good eye.

Tom, yesterday I searched around on Woodman and I find her really interesting. Pretty tragic story too. I got onto amazon and ordered a book, so thanks for the good info and comments. regards, curtis

I agree. Ugly lights, but the result is very nice. I like your play with lights and shadows.

Tom, thanks again. Yea my model through many of these is my girlfriend, and luckily she has been very easy to photograph. I don't like to set up shots very much, so we generally go places with the intent to shoot work and take it as it comes. Also, thank you for the comments on my portfolio. Unfortunately, everything posted on here is older works of mine. I do not have a negative scanner at my house, and need to get into the photo lab to start scanning my newer works, which tend to be much more conceptual. I'll try to get some new stuff on soon. thanks again.
