Thank you. I was very fortunate of the direction of the wind. Longer exposure and it turned out much better than I had hoped.

Thank you both. An aircraft carrier such as mine doesnt get thrown around much like a smaller ship. but during this period of the cruise, I was beginning to get sick.

Yes this was a hand held and just one of several "failed" attempts. I would have liked to exposed it a little longer, but I didnt have a tripod, and couldnt hold my breath any longer. haha. I thought about cropping it, but for some reason or another, I just love the traditional picture frame shape. More than likely if I am not cropping out too much, that is the reason. But I would like to thank you.

Neat thing to do. And great photo. I take it to be a handheld, otherwise you may have exposed abit longer to get a few stars in the sky?? Or else I dont really understand why so much uncropped black sky :P And as I said.. I dont think the picture would have minded a slightly longer exposure.

I really like this picture too.. I just wish I TOO could be out on the sea and take pictures hehe. And Im quite impressed by the clear water on the sea... Ive been out on the black sea in a couple of ocasions and I had waves from 2 meters to about 14 m lol.. little pilot ship would submarine through the waves.

I did not imply it was altered. Just that digital sensors tend to bring out the shaddows to do an average lighting(kinda like exposing the shadows at a higher iso) and the shaddow detail is way better then even the eye can capture creating that "sureal" look I was talkin about. tho the picture is GREAT. Good Job!!

The different colors here are from two seperate lights in the yard. The one in the left edge casts a typically white tone, while one off to the left and behind me gives a sulphur glow. This is simply a time delay shot set at 30 second exposure. This picture has not been altered other than resized

I am on the USS Kitty Hawk stationed in Japan. Often we find ourselves in the Wester Pacific ocean. If memory serves me correctly, the few days preceding this shot, had been mostly gloomy with a lot of overcast. The skys were beginning to clear in the last afternoon, and the sun just happened to reflect off them perfectly. As if the sky had caught on fire.

Really nice flare effect and just great night photo. I strive to learn the secrets tho I find that taking the digitap pic is like cheating :P. the visibility becomes too day like even tho appears to be night making for a surreal look.

There certainly is a sense of peace and tranquility associated with this image. The sea is rather flat so there must have been little or no breeze. No matter how many sunrise/set photos I look at, there is always something unique and compelling about each one. Very nice capture. Best wishes, Kurt
