Hey Ian!! it´s neither a shift lense nor me at the foot of the wonder. This photographer had the demeanor of an old time professional and I so wanted to see what he was shooting, but no matter how hard I tried I failed to see what caught his attention. I suppose I could have asked him, but I was too intimidated and now I´ll never know. I come here quite often and I still find myself trying to figure what photo he saw. Thank you for all yr comments, they meen quite a bit to me.
cheers

wow, thank you soo much for the offer Martin. Sometimes when u shoot a photo you have much more in mind than what´s there at the time. This kind of shots are always I always take to be converted to BW and it just happened that the weather that day helped so much in conveying this 30´s feel to the city.

thanks Henrik! It was accentuated in PS. Eventhough it´s a fairly new bridge, the cloudy and foggy weather that day made it feel much older. I thought that augmenting the blur a tad would help convey this aged feel.

Hey Sue! Not much more than I can add here..so jealous of yr weekend. Great shot, beautifull colors and tones and amazing light. I think u could possibly loose that little bit of wall to the right and just let the view focus on the beautifull abbey, sort of like this..it´s great nonetheless. cheers

meant to say Mario instead od Ron in that 3rd sentence; wish I had the option to edit my comments after the fact

defintely this one and by far. Kambiz, I have to totally agree with Ron on this one. Violence is never pretty but it´s something we live with. We just can´t turn a blind eye to it. Like Ron said, all yr suggtestions are good but they´re mainstream in that every photo entered in that contest will be exactly those you suggested. This one, like I said in previous comment, really stands out from the rest and like Ron said it can be used to bring attention to a subject so difficult to address. cheers

Hugo, wanted to thank you for your wonderful and insightful critique. Unfortunatetly, given the light conditions as it was taken at around 6am, were not that great and I had to sacrifice some sharpness which is something I wish I could have improved. Just to give u a bit more insight into the picture, they were aware of me and my camera even though I was standing accross the courtyard and they hid their faces from me at all times except at this moment when he looked up to check if I was still there.
thank you again for yr words

Hey Mario! I totally agree with everything Ron has pointed out. It´s a great, bold and nicely executed image; one that really stands out from the rest. If I was to be picky I might find the dark right corner a bit distracting from the overall composition. How did it fare in the contest?

thanks Abdulla and Karina!
Karina, I´m still trying to get used to working on an lcd display vs my old crt monitor. It´s tricky to get the levels just right. I did push up the levels to compseate a bit, but maybe not enough.

Thank you Samuel! I wasn't too sure if to crop it a bit tighter at the bottom or not. I thought a tighter crop worked better, but ended up loosing the notion that it was shot at the Christo installation; what do you think?

thanks again Diego and Michael. I just wish there would have been a bridge worker, that would have just made my day. I was really inspired by a book my wife recently gave me on Margaret Bourke-White's photography.
