thank you AJ.. this place, Goldfield,NV is a town that in the gold rush was growing faster than san fransico.. it was a really big city.. and became a ghost town.. so there are lots of buildings and cars and junk just abandoned by those who left.. it makes for a day of great shooting...

smoke has proved to be a challenging subject, it is really unpredictable, and you really cant control it.. plus when it moves, you can lose focus really fast... so the fact that all those variables came together for this image is a miracle.. :) thank you so much Aj for stopping by and commenting on my image..

this is really nicely done.. i like the trash and the weeds and even the marble pole.. the contrast of it against the chairs and the wall is something interesting.. how old is the house? you state that it was 150 years since it was refurbished, what is the actual age?

yes its really rare i get to shoot stuff like this... so it is really trial and error.. plus it was pitch black night so focus and comp. is very challenging.. thank you for your comments though. i will certainly use the suggestions in the future..

im not sure why i sized this one so small.. but once it was uploaded i didnt change it.. i generally dont shoot raw, when shooting smoke.. i have to shoot really fast, and though the d2x can shoot pretty fast on raw, i shoot almost 10 frames per second at large jpeg. so, i will suffer through the smaller jpeg for choice of speed.. i will be doing and uploading a lot of these, so i might just do some raw images..

yes thats correct AJ, the compression kinda pixelates it in areas.. in the original image there is none. it really is a lot of fun to do. the first smoke i shot was in in '06. i have about 10 or so total in my smoke portfolio. also, i change the white balance to different kelvin settings to get different effects.. this one was set at daylight 5600, the others are at 10,000 and 2500. i use an incense for the source. control your light and the result i find amazing. focus is quite a challenge. thank you for your comments on this..
