I like your B&W portrait work very much - so many good expressions and moments frozen.

Cheers,
Chris

It doesn't surprise me that you already considered this option - it seems a natural choice!

Cheers & Regards,

All they'd need for that would be a big magnet :)

Joking aside, the exposure worked, wish it was abit bigger.

- Also, do try & find the book that movie was based on by Ray Bradbury -

Chris

I love this sort of photo... the technique can be hard for some to figure out!!

This is a good example, and looks nice & seamless.

Very nice. Good atmosphere captured. Maybe w/o the tree branches at the bottom?

Excellent!

I have to question though - is the boat in the original? I hope it is yes.

The only reason I ask is because it seems like this was a longer exposure given the foreground, but the but isn't really motion blurred? Also lighting seems a bit different.

Good photo either way,

Regards,
Chris

Nice in it's simplicity. Good diagonal lines & works well in monotone,

I like this - it looks very natural. I think in B&W with an adjustment to raise highlights may help. Good work.

I like this as is, but to me something that zoomed in on the pattern in the sand may have worked better. Esp. eliminating the to the right. The flat sky works, but to me the beach grass is a distraction. Really enjoy the patterns in the dune.

Chris

Overall looks good. A very high contrast scene, tough image to resolve for a digital sensor. Could have perhaps tried a grad ND filter? or multiple exposures to HDR? Just to bring out abit of foreground detail. Composition seems abit centered. Maybe with more cloud cover next time.

Chris

Very good to see. Looks like the same spot? Only slight differences between photos. Good range of light and colors. Overall good poster. My votes go to bottom middle, and middle right spots,

Hi Laura, I usually use a polarizing filter, and when out on the water, a UV haze and polarizer (mainly to protect against water splash - I keep a second UV in my bag, after it becomes impossible to clean the first one used).

Lens quality matters, more importantly - getting the exposure right (as close to spot on as possible), keeping a steady arm - and in instances like this - using the fastest shutter speed possible.

I always shoot Canon - either the 300D or ELAN 7E (w/ Fuji slide film).

Cheers,
Chris

You do some very good work. The mix of long exposure effect on the water, the natural color balanced light (i.e. not overly blue) and great texture in the foreground amounts to a very pleasing landscape image. And while it doesn't look totally natural, it is cohesive enough to really work out well.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks Jan. This area is where the Mt. Hope Bay meets with the Narragansett, and there are really no waves or motion to speak of, but I do see what you mean... after re-checking the exif data, it was a 25 second exposure - which is a bit odd considering that there is wave detail present.

Cheers,
Chris

Amazing scene, very much like the rest of your work. Could be sharper, but the softness works very well here.

Hello Ferdinando! Yes, I know how hard it can be in a moving boat to get the exact composition that you want, esp. in high wind and waves. Also, I really do like the photo overall (I tend to be harder on photos that are good).

Chris

Interesting day and lighting. This is a very strong scene, but I believe two things could have been improved: the composition and exposure settings.

By placing the horizon and island almost in the center, it creates a somewhat static scene. Perhaps trying to place the horizon on the lower third and the island off center abit more could have helped?

Also, while 1/1000th @ f/4 gave a good exposure, I would have dropped the shutter and raised the aperature (while still having a fast enough shutter for the moving boat) so as to increase the DOF as much as possible in the long scene.

The colors are very pleasing and the light excellent.

Regards,
Chris

Cropping seems like it could maybe be improved (slightly down and to the left?). Her mood is well captured.

The image is very warm, and also lacking some contrast.

Overall a good work with minor changes,

Cheers,
Chris

This photo has a definite appeal to me. First you have the opposing colors of the sea green and then the deep red of the boat. The viewers eye is led nicely through the photo, esp. with the rope on the right hand side. The only thing I might have done different is minor - in blending the white frame to match the UF background.

Congrats,
Chris

An interesting still life. The composition seems somewhat split down the middle.

I like the colors and overall lighting.

As for as post, it seems to be on the noisy side. A lower ISO setting may have helped. Also, less adjustments in post may have helped to reduce introducing noise. The image also appears abit washed out.

Cheers,
Chris
