Hello John, It's been around 8 months since I was last on this site looking at your stuff and I 've noticed an unbelievable contrast in your work between then and now. You're putting out some top quality stuff. Keep it up! Bren.

Great perspective and colours. It's nice to see some alternative views of Death Valley.

My kind of shot Walt, although I would have been tempted for the much wider view. Great shot nonetheless and spot on with the exposure

nice alternative view of the Valley Patrick. I'm assuming that is frost in the foreground. Good job on balancing the exposure.

Spectacular colours Barry and nicely exposed. Maybe a little contrasty for my tastes, but I suppose that's the nature of slide film and the low angle of the sun. Great shot nonetheless.

Barry, I see what you mean, but it might be a result of the web compression. I made a 10" print of this and the detail is great, but it may lack that bite in the contrast department. Post processing is something I'm struggling to get the grip of, but practice makes perfect I suppose. I also think that the 800 pixel max. post size is very limiting for a lot of work, particularly images such as this that contain a lot of detail. We should have links to larger files.

Great shot and very brave of you getting close to wild swans. They may look like angelic creatures, but I've heard of a guy getting his arm broken by a swan flapping his wing.....Ouch!

Fantastic yet again! The colour is so vivid, it's dripping off the screen. Excellent shot!

Nicely lit Aleksandra, my only complaint is that it looks just a tad soft on the web. Your original may be different of course.

Some great shots from this trip. I curious as to how your D70 held up in the sea air with all that spray flying around?

This would have benefited from using the "rear curtain sync" on your D70's flash settings. The flash would fire at the end of the exposure, resulting in a blured triangle and sharp balls at the end of their blurry trails, conveying a more realistic sense of movement.

This one works much better for me Barry. The lighting is better and the exposure more even. Just goes to show if you come accross a great scene it pays to wait a while and see what happens. Great shot.

Wonderful portrait Piero. great Depth of Field. I'd like to see it in a big B&W print on the wall. Top Marks.

Thank you Karen, but in true advertising style, it is actually just a glass of lemonade with a salted rim. I wonder would that qualify it as a "manipulated" photo Apparently this stuff does work, although I haven't personally tried it. I prefer the "know-your-limit" method although I am partial to the odd margaita.

Barry, I had two Balcar strobes on either side of the camera and about 45 degrees to the product (part of a 3 head set with tons of accessories that I got for a steal from a retired photog). Both were bounced into large umbrellas and giving the same amount of light to ensure no shadows. The hardest part to get right was the highlight on the backround. I used my Nikon strobe, which has slave capabilities, handheld over and slightly behind the product. The flash head was zoomed to its max (105mm I think) to concentrate the beam at the base of the backround and produce a graded effect. All made easier to get right by using digital. If it wasn't right I could instantly tell and do over.

I appreciate your efforts Helder, but can you explain to me what the differences are between my shot and your edit? Thanks.

That exposure is near perfect and pretty sharp at that speed. You must not be a coffee drinker.

I rellay like this. My only gripe is that the backround is a little too busy.

Hi Yee, firstly, thank you for looking at my photos. Compositionally, this is excellent, but the bland colour lets it down. Try removing the colour and giving it a little more contrast and add a slight tone too it like this. What do you think?

Barry, I actually could not see anything through that Ilford filter, despite a bright sunny day, so I let the D70's autofocus do the work and used a small aperture. Maybe the camera's autofocus works on an infra red level, it had no trouble locking on.

I like the inclusion of the sun in this Patrick. It offsets the predominantly cool tones, giving it a sense of warmth and serenity, the light ripple only adds to this effect. Great shot!

Good capture John, nice and sharp. I like the diagonal, makes it more interesting. The backround is great too, just enough out of focus not to distract. Good work and as always I appreciated your kind comments on my recent pics.

You are really getting the hang of this macro stuff John. Very nicely composed and the lighting is just perfect in this. Was it natural window light? Great work.
