oh shucks..c'mon, wouldja? i have never been POD, EC, SC, POTD, LCD, ASAP, XXX, PHD, LSD, DO-RE-MI, FA-SO-LA-TI-DO or even critique-of-the-day in this place. i'm just a shooter like you..just maybe with a little more experience than two weeks, but still trying to make sense out of this piece of metal and glass and electronics called a camera. You're doing great..just get wild. There are no rules. Have fun. Follow your instincts. kat~

hi, Roger! No, darlin', it wasn't me who talked about tones. i was admiring the composition and discussing my personal reaction to this photo, which i liked a lot. i don't mind the dark tones (haha, me mind dark tones?), they don't distract from my enjoyment of the image at all. But i did want to say that i think you might be confusing my comments with someone else's. ))regards: kat~

I do like this image... it goes some way to leaving the viewer to figure it out I dont quite agree with what Kathleen is saying about the tones I think that for the size of the image the tones are a tad dark but having said that it is still a very successful image, that would be stronger for a slightly lighter treatment.

Criticism was the wrong word, but I didn't want to sound trite. So, Thank you so much for the praise! Your post made my day! I mean that. I've probably read it twenty times now, getting a complement from someone as talented as yourself really means a lot.

gee, this is different..a sexy hay bale image. Not since Marilyn Monroe posed seductively in a hay loft with her gingham blouse tied up under her "bosoms" (so i don't get censored) have i seen such a delectable bit of female anatomy and hay in the same frame. And i'm straight, so get that thought right outta yer head! ) This is sexiness for the new millenium. No gingham shirts and white shorts for this girlfriend..no exaggeratedly arched poses with that come hither look, ohhh, nooo...silver bracelets at the ends of casually hanging arms, and a nothing special kinda shirt ending somewhat short of her unbelted perfectly worn jeans, showing just the merest bit of pretty tummy. And no head. And in b&w no less. Very intuitively provocative shot on your part. Bold, brave and i love the centered position of her. It says, you can look at the scenery if you want to, buddy, but you hafta get past me to do it. Well done..and you say you bought your first camera 2 weeks ago? You don't believe in wasting time, do you? Best regards from Costa Rica: kat~

haha, i love this photograph. usually i see photographs of children, with their mouths closed and their eyes expressionless or downcast; people often photograph children not when they look like children, but when they look like adults. thank you for capturing this wonderful expression that is both child and adult, but is such a fresh breath of air in the world of child photogaphy.

Good one! I live in landlocked Bureau county but something about the sea...

"Oh the work it is hard and the hours are long;
But my spirit is willing,
My back it is strong.
And when the days over the whiskey we'll pour
And dance with the ladies
On some foreign shore.."

I have been thinking about your title question all dy...I didn't mean to cut ya off last night, if you took it that way...I was trying to say my answer was too long for posting to the photo comments. If ya send me an email address I have some long thoughts about the whole title thingy.

Very good perspecitve, John! I always enjoy these old tallships, as well as the vertical shot up, but I've never seen the combination of the two. Beautifully saturated colours, and a perfect perspective.

Cheers,

Hugo

Thanks for the advice. I used a large aperture to help blur the background. I also concentrated the focus on the Radio Flyer logo. I never thought Radio Flyer would sell out to over seas. I hear Kodak will be doing the same thing with all their plants.

Nothing wrong with a low perspective...
I would have focused more clearly on either the wagon or the distant grass and given the other object a more distant perspective. Still, I canna quibble much with this one at all. And did ya hear? Radio Flyer is closing their place in Chicago, and moving over seas.

I really like this photo. First off, how it is shot. It is very creative.

Secondly. I love how you were able to find an old toy that helps you connect with people and happy times gone by.

I like the balance between the green and the red/brown of the wagon, and the way the wagon leads you into the photo.

hey, not bad!! I like it so much.
but let me do some excercises on it, changes I would like to do if I were you taking the photo. is only my point of view, of course
1- try to take only one roll, to give more protagonism to it.
2- putting the roll on one side.
3- use a shorter exposure, I think the sky has too much light and is disturbing it. the shadow roll gives you an oportunity of 2 or 3 stops.
4- try to take the orizont a litle upper.

... and let see what happen
cheers

ps: sorry for my english...
