What a superb image, Paul! Looks very interesting with the mist over the water blurring out the horizon line, giving a very unsettling look to the right-hand side. It almost looks as though those mountains, and indeed the boat, are coming out from some lost world. (Maybe I've watched too many bad old Hollywood films

"Bichinho"???

Don't worry, Danny.

I'm trying to get to 10,000.

I should make it that far by this evening...

Very nice macro, Melanie. Good details and colours. Nice and close.

Perhaps you could experiment with different compositions also, not so much a fully-centered one. Havnig said that, the straight symmetric approach works well here.

No mobile phones, even?

Good capture.

At least they are not giving the middle-finger

Tony,

Mainly conventional in-camera: white background, correctly exposed for white. I did "retouch" it in PS to make it 100% white. Nothing major.

Thanks for commenting.

More like a nail clipper

Excellent results, I love the high key image you have produced.

However, maybe you can be a bit more subtle with the brightness, applying it more to the background than to the metal itself, to avoid losing the edges. Also, the background itself needs a bit of cleanup (airbrushing, they used to call it in the days of film in the bottom right corner.

I have some recent images in my portfolio that have a fairly similar approach to different subjects.

Danny,

I fear discussing this inside UF as you may get blocked/banned. I don't care if they do that to me, but I do care if you're affected.

Did you receive my reply to your e-mail? Use e-mail and I'll explain. Not here. It's not safe. Big Brother may be watching.

You are, as usual, very right, and precisely so, Danny.

I know the pic you are talking about. I have seen it and it is great.

This is a nice shot at producing a contemporary equivalent, though the white walls don't quite give it the same effect as the original

Dottie,

You can include me in the e-mail, please.

I think I "get" what this is about.

Nice composition with some good shapes.

I tried inverting it again and found that I much prefer it like that!

Good composition, though.

You did well to listen to their advice, Gary. This looks very nice. Great capture of the fireworks combined with the bridge. Good stuff.

If you are going this far into a crop, I would also sugest you consider correcting the horizon, which is a bit tilted. You should do that before cropping.

Nice vertical images to create an interesting tryptich, György.

At this size, I am wishing that the two spires had been corrected for the perspective to get vertical lines, so that they match the other two images.

Beautiful delicate colours and tones, Anunay. Very well captured. The white background is ideal. Is it a lightbox?

I'd favour a simple border, though. And maybe a smaller aperture for a bit more sharpness and DOF.

No problem, Sally.

Cross-processing originally refers to processing film in the wrong chemistry. For example, most 35mm colour negative film is supposed to be developed using what is known as the C-41 process (what all minilabs do). Colour positive film (slides) is supposed to be developed using the E-6 process.

Hence you can go into a photo store and ask to buy "C-41" or "E-6" film or chemicals and they would probably (still) understand what you are talking about.

It was soon found out that if one shot a negative film and then developed it in C-41 chemicals, the results would be photos with funky shifted colours, which could be quite a pleasant effect.

The results vary depending on the specific film and chemicals used, and whether you did C-41 film in E-6 process or vice-versa.

I tried to duplicate the effects of the shifted colours via a Channel Mixer layer in Photoshop. In this particular case I inserted a layer (Layer>New adjustment layer>Channel mixer) and then changed the default setting to the following:

In the red channel, red: 50, green: 23, blue: 40. Green channel: 25, 50, 25. Blue channel: 15, 25, 50.

Here's a version without the colour shifting.

A 105 é ótima para flores etc e coisas que voce pode chegar bem perto. É uma das minhas lentes favoritas.

It's the eyes! Brilliand selective focus, making those eyes (count them!) really "pop out" of the frame.

Pat,

Lovely use of the letterbox frame. It really suits this image so well. I love the way the stem meanders through the frame and is rounded off by the beautifully lit flower head.

Splendid work.

There's a "Philosophy Of Photography Forum" (www.usefilm.com/photo_forum/11/), I guess you just read stuff that's there, post a question or respond in some thread.

What a wonderful landscape composition! Love the colours and the use of the stream as a lead-in to the image.

The mountain in the background is beautiful. and the light is outstanding, Eric.

A very nice pic indeed!
