Hello H.J. I noticed this shot didn't get any responses so I thought I would add my 2 cents worth hoping you don't mind.
I can see where you wanted to go with this shot, just not sure you got there. I believe that it needs a stronger focal point, say the hand...in order to obtain that you would need to sacrifice the steps which really don't add anything to this photo.
I took the liberty of capturing your photo and simply cropping it in PS. I realize that a reshoot would be what is needed here, but maybe this can give you an idea of what I have in mind.
I think if you step closer to the light you would not only get a stronger focal point, but the focus on the bridge rails would be sharper.

Everything is wonderful except the uniform....well, maybe just the hat. Put a Chicago Cubs hat on the boy....then,,,perfection! Ok, just having a bit of fun. I do so enjoy photos of young ones and baseball. I will keep his name at hand and look for him to be drafted in 10 or 11 years. But don't forget the college education!
