Its a great shot and it gives off a really good dreary and lonely feeling to it. I think that since it is in color and the colors are very bland it would be more effective in B&W. I desaturated your image and adjusted the tones a little bit to see if it would work better that way and I think that it did...

Its a nice, appealing shot overall but I think that from a technical aspect there are too many dark tones in it to give you the feeling that you were going for (happy, warm, and inviting I think)...

I like the shot because it is completely off-centered but it doesn't feel that way at all. The hallway draws the eye to the right side very easily...
