Nice shot, James, I like the B&W treatment. You are right, it is lovely. Stunning scenery and great people.

Hi Tim. Those tiles on the roof appear to be some kind of ceramic material. They look similar to the ones you can see in parts of Europe (Croatia for example) but are a different colour. The ones in Europe tend to be red/orange, in China they're usually black or grey.

Hi james, I popped over to your folio to see what you have been up to...Again I find some great new compositions this being one of them! Are all those roofs made of shale shingles, or are they wooden shingles? The warm tones in this image combined with all the textures of the roofs is fantastic.
Hope you are well....cheers, Tim

So many point of interest in this composition, the most fascinating for me are the black roofs and the red gate on the foreground. Is that a pagoda on the upper left the one that is shape like a Christmas tree. All this old structure in contrast to the two new buildings.. A very traditional village here you have shown James.
great shot!
regards..

Nice composition, you have taken it so that the buildings wind nicely through the shot. Looks like a pretty village. Alison

Very nicely composed shot, James! I like the lighting and the way you've captured the designs made up of the shapes of the roofs.

James, it is always a pleasure to read as well as see your perspective on the rural settings from somehere in china. From the more distant photo this bridge did stand out as a point of interest. I am glad for your closer zoom on this as well as the indepth description. Truly an amazing structure of the like we will never see again. My one question would be, are they maintaining it?Although I can see that with their infineate wisdom it is covered by continuious roofing and will likely stand the test of time with just a little roof maintenance.

hi James. This perspective is quite spectacular in color as well as composition. The rudimentary development in the valley is still attractive and seemingly intigrated with the surrounding landscape. Quite a beautiful perspective.
Cheers,
Tim

lol... well I think I must go to Finland to find lakes lol... :-D
the most impressive with lakes near to mountains is that many times the winds there are not strong and many times no winds SO the best mirror effects on the reflections!!!
hope you be there, that means for me and the other people here in UF that will see more good stuff my friend...
I bet on that!
be well!

John, there arent too many lakes in this region either. In fact a few days after I left this lake, I was in the middle of the Taklamakan Desert. No lakes there either obviously :)

But this lake is very very nice, not many people living around it, its relatively clean, and if you choose you can hike up in the surrounding mountains for a few days (in summer only) and visit people who live up there. Didn't do that myself, but perhaps this year or next.

Best wishes ~ James

Hi John, the area where I took this photo is in western Sichuan province, not too far from the border with Tibet. This area is a part of Greater Tibet, and right now much of it is closed off entirely to foreigners and news reporters because of the trouble going on inside Tibet itself.

Take care ~ James

Amazing shot and amazing story for these statues, I think at the very past, china Emeror 'use' these statues to the big wall so to cheet the enemies thinking of... a billion of soldgers, but after he use almost all the money of his country and there wasn't enouph raw materials he try to makes them shorter and shorter and after some time his fake soldgers was about 30cm tall... is that right?
SUPERB discovery and so a trully priceless photo James really excellent subject.
best regards!

Hi John. This was one of my first digital photos with my Fuji S5000 camera. Actually I like this photo but the camera had a lot of limitations, but was a great camera to learn digital photography on. I would like to go back to that place again and take that same photo again, but would need a lot of luck to get the foggy conditions just right again.

Thanks ~ James

excellent shot, mostly as a great composition between black and grey, the silhouette of that amazing building and the human present into really nothingness about the background, I love that kind of weather, gives amazing and very moody photos like here...
I hope if you could get also the reflection of your subject into the frame... just an idea of course, the work is excellent!!!
best regards!

Great shot, full of buildings frame, full of lines and shapes, and with the clothes hunged there, to add the element of a place that people live there, what a place, a really unique village (unique = with the GOOD meanning of the word of course)
I think on that village must be ...millions of amazing photos!
be well James!
