Marie, sometimes the cage can emphasis a photo, but in this case I find the chain link to be a big distraction. Your focus is off a bit. I do like the way you caught the tiger while he/she was yawning as it shows the size of his/her teeth.
Shooting digital can be tricky with White tigers.If you take your camera out of the "Continous focus" mode, zoom in on the Tiger and set your focus, you can then zoom back out and still be perfectly focused on the tiger.

Nice capture of this bigmouth white tiger Marie. Next time you should try to hold your camera closer to the fence because in this case it distracts a bit. Pity focus is more on the background then on the tiger.....Best regards Harry

I actually took this picture from a helicopter. If anyone ever has the opportunity to take a helicopter tour of the grand canyon i highly recommend it. It was one of the most amazing and beautiful things that i have ever done!

To answer your question about photo editing software - a good bet for you might be Paint Shop Pro version 8. You can find it nowadays with a $20 rebate. It retails for $100, but I've seen it at a few big retailers for $80, i.e., $60 after rebate. From what I've seen, it has most of the features of Photoshop, but it has a much gentler learning curve :-)

A beautiful portrait, Marie!
This image really is incredible for a beginner, or for an experienced photographer, for that matter. The overall composition is great, and look at all the wonderful details... the luminous scallop-shaped pattern of the high-tide line, the wonderful backlighting separating Mom's head from the sea, and Mom's delightful stance.
I'll bet she loved this photo?

I thought that was not a 'kitty'
I like the composition though but seems the DOF is so shallow giving an illusion of fuzziness overall and perhaps a fill-in light would make the face jump and smoothen the harsh light on Kitty's bed.
