I was trying to use the shafts of light on the dial to work out what time the picture was taken when I sensed something was wrong. It took me a few minutes to realise the numbers go the opposite way to ones I usually see which must mean it's made for the Southern hemisphere. If I'd just checked the location I'd have worked it out quicker! I think if I had been taking this picture I would probably have tried a square on alignment with the plinth to try and capture the regularity, symmetry and scientific origins of the subject. But that's just me! Anyway thanks for making me think about the other half of the world I haven't visited (yet).
