Strong directional lighting, great reflection in the water with just enough water movement, and a perfect backdrop makes this a wildlife winner for me.

An unusual character portrait.
I like the long lead in to this through the glasses and that the frame appears to be broken.
Good conversion.
All the best.

I like the mood you have caught here with the long (but not too long) exposure and the grain in the capture.
Nice one.

Nice browns and blues and good textures.
The outside at the top of the stairs is too bright for my liking and maybe you could consider a crop to remove it; but the light from it does give very nice shadows on the steps.

Hi Avi.
Thanks for the comment.
Ysobel is my daughter. This photo was taken in the kitchen and is virtually full frame rather than cropped. I balanced a piece of wood between 2 chairs (which I knew would form the bottom of the frame when photoshopped) and asked her to peer over the top. The intention was to make it look as though she was pulling herself into a frame. I think it sort of worked but I need to practice a little more.
As for new photos. I have temporarily put down my digital camera and am almost exclusively film at the moment. I develop them in the kitchen and then scan the negatives. Because it is time consuming (fun as well) the number of photos I have taken has dropped considerably. Unfortunately many are not the best quality and I am becoming more picky in my own work.
Work also means I am busy at this time of year, but I promise I will work on some showing some more soon. In the meantime I continue to watch everybody else....

Excellent B&W.
An excellent study of form and texture that work really well together. The shadows add a human element that compliments the rest of the photo.
You have a great eye for these images.
All the best.

Thanks Jen. I used to work with film cameras, then along came digital so I sold them all. I found then that I became a bit lazy with getting an image right by checking the screen to see if everything was okay rather than concentrating on the shot in the first place. I bought second hand film cameras from on line auctions etc because the price fell, and now ten to think more about my picture than leaving it to chance.
That said, I still use digital now and again and love the clarity it gives me but am really enjoying film at the moment. So I use both.
As for PODs etc. In my opinion there are many photos on UF by excellent artists that are far more deserving of POD than this; but thank you for your nice comments.
Paul.

Thanks for the comment Jen.
In the days before digital there were a lot of different types of film made. Velvia was a slide film that made the colours very rich. It was a favourite of many landscape photographers, but not popular with portrait photographers.
The colours in this scene are real, just 'saturated' because of the film. About 3 years ago Fuji stopped making Velvia 50 and it became scarce. I found 5 rolls in a local camera store. Fuji have since started to make the film again.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velvia has some more information if you interested.
Best wishes.

Somehow, B&W like this always work for me.
The square gives a strong composition. The compressed perspective from using a telephoto lens and the strong diaganols leading into the distance where there is a second point of interest in the group of people.
A strong character in the first point of interest (the old lady) where she is perfectly placed.
Shame about the bin on the wall but that is nothing to do with your skills as a photographer.

Wow.
This has great form in the curve, superb richly saturated colour, an uncluttered background, a super composition and the dof really draws us to the subjects.
An excellent piece of nature photography.

Like a Holga (yup) but seedy too. Like a hidden camera in a bag on a table in the coffee bar.
Dirty treatment works well. Love the grain and the tilt and the HCB moment.
I haven't commented much on your work recently, but I do look at it.

Nice abstract image and you caught the textures of the paper well. If anything, clone the fragment of the signature, centre, extreme right, just above the pen. I do not think it is needed.
With the best wishes.
