Great shot, looks almost too perfect. We are having 100 dgree heat here, I would sure like to jump in that water!

Great use of color, very intense. The rest of your photos are also great. How do you get such great colors?

That is a great shot along with so many of your others. Ought to be hanging on a lot of walls.

Yes, the woman has turned her head away in conversation with her mother, not to avoid the camera. Technically this is a weak photo but does show the three generations and that is why I included it.

Thanks for you comments. It is a long way but judging from your excellent people and travel photos your are a seasoned traveler. Soussusvlei is worth the effort, I would like to go back.

I was just looking through your portfolio, you have a lot of great wildlife photos but this is my favorite (white rhino and egrets). Did you get all these on one trip or have you been on several? Nice work.

Thanks for your comments, Doyle. This was taken in Etosha National Park in Namibia. We were required to remain in the vehicle at all times in the park except for the camping areas since elephant can be very dangerous if they feel threatened. There are also lions around. A tourist was killed and eaten near this spot 4 years ago by a lion (he was sitting out alone in the open and fell asleep!).

I should have added that maybe a wider aperture would help by giving more defocus to the background.

Looks to me like it came out very well, great sense of motion. There is probably a limit to what you can do since you would need a faster shutter speed to stop the motion in the horse's legs but that would also clarify the background. A slower speed to blur the background more would blur any part of the subject which was in relative motion to another part.

Very nice, great use of light and DOF. Was this simply a small aperture or did you have some back tilt to get it all in focus?

Nice composition, very dramatic. I am sure a lot of work went into this one.

Thanks for your comments. I wanted the little girl's face to be at the center to symbolize that children are at the center of this family group.

A very cool shot, I could not tell what it was in the thumbnail. I am surprised you could get good exposure in the sky and also the deep shadows.

Those are indeed African Penguins and they are the only penguin found this far north. The nest in burrows on the beach and in the brush nearby. This is a small nature reserve, great place for photos.

You think wrong. I spent six hours with these people and took dozens of pictures, had some good laughs looking at each other in the camera playback screen. I was invited to take all their pictures. We shot arrows with the men, went on a hunt and did some dancing around the fire at night. I don't take people's pictures without their permission anywhere. I am sure your comments were meant well but you have not the slightest idea what you are talking about.

Tjaart, I have admired all your photos of the Namibian desert posted on usefilm. I guess you were there during some of the rains this past summer (for you, winter for me). That must have been great to see the sky like that as well as the dunes and desert. I would like to go back and spend a few days there, only had half a day in June. Please do post any recent photos or tell me where to go to see them.

I love this shot. The flamingos make a great background but are far enough away not to imterfere with the view of his majesty flying through. The fast shutter speed stops the action well. That piece of stuff just in front of the eagle is a slight distraction, could be cleaned up in photoshop. Great 3-dimensional quality.

Yes, I agree, everyone who has visited there has this shot or something similar; it is pretty hard to get somethting original there. But now I have a large scale, finely detailed print to put on my wall and look at daily, remembering the stark beauty of the desert.
