very severe and very austere
to be stated:
no smooth change from winter to spring
but a stubborn struggle
at least here

I caught this in Random Images and am so glad I did. The hint of color in this low key photo is what makes it so successful for me. The softness is perfect for the scene, I will imagine a soft spring morning in Provence. It's 26 degrees here and snowing (Wisconsin) so I need all the help I can get in wishing spring would get here, soon please.

This image has a great emotional feel to it. The colors and tone lend itself to a painting. Very nice,

I agree that this has simple beauty instilled in it, but I find the grey background too heavy for this delicate flower. A different colour would make this stand out even more.

I really like it, but I find the thing on the right distracting. I tried to remove it, done very quickly, so of course it can be done better. But the mood is very nice. Small people, make big things, but they tend to get lost in their own inventions, thats what this photo tells me.

i like what you want to show here... but i think it would look better if you?d have framed the man in the chair some place different from the center... and of course, i think the most important point here is that you shouldn?t have cutted his legs, i think he must be showed complete...
remember is my opinion only, i really like the shot and perspective you got here
regards...

Love the highlights in the bushes, the water, the boat.... this really speaks impressionistic to me. Looks like it was made more painterly in PS -- just adds to the beauty of this!

Very pleasing photo with wonderful rich colors. Can't quite decide if the hint of blue is a distraction or not. Only way to know for sure would be to see it without.

I do wish I had had more time for more shots. The big plaza was very busy and these two moved on. [Mom won this gentle contest of wills.] It was hard to isolate the two. I was trying lock them in a space which gave drama to the scene and preserved the mystery.

Thanks for your generous comments. I appreciate them.

Nice photo and a great title to go with it. Actually, I like both photographs you submitted today and will say the same thing about them: I think the composition is superb but at the same time, it would be nice to get in a little closer, so as to clearly capture some facial expressions. I want to know who is winning this negotiation. (Looks like the child so far )

That's just really, really cool. Great composition. The onyl thing I'd like to see is a contrast between a version with slightly richer color and a monochrome with a mild selenium-toned look, just for kicks. Well seen, and well executed. I bet a large print of this looks great.

Wooo... First I thot this was taken using some Fisheye lens. What a cool builing... the shot is beautifully composed. I love everything about this shot. Wondering how would this look if this was taken with fisheye lens!!!

10 out of 10 for spotting this scene! The colour of the people standing against the grey of the building and the slightly odd scale is marvelous. I hope you have it blown up to 30x20 and hung on your wall!

Hi Carl. This is a well seen picture. The strong lines make this shot for me. It is what I would call a graphic image (although all images are graphic) and it has been enhanced by the use of monochrome.

Nice that you could shoot it when there were no people around. It heightens the feel of great space and the ultra modern architecture complements and suggests the technological achievements of the TGV. Good capture and nice work!

Cheers!
Jeff

Thanks Kim. As usual, your thoughts are useful. With this composition, I was trying to give a sense for the chaos of green with little spots of color in the out of focus background, while always drawing the eye back to the colorful complicated shapes of the flowers in the right of the frame. Upon reflection, I get the same feeling of unease with so much of the frame in background. There's simply no place on the left half for the eye to rest. Perhaps a square crop would help. Anyway, thanks for your comments and ideas.

Oh, it IS in Monet's garden, just outside of Giverny in northern France. I'll probably post some more shots from that wonderful location.

I like the bright colours of the flowers on the right, but the framing is throwing me off... there is so much dead space to the left of flowers that it feels very unbalanced. As well, your title suggests to me that you were going for a Monet look (either that, or you really were in Monet's garden, taking pictures! *grin*) and when I think on Monet's paintings, they are very abstract and flowing. But I don't want to judge your image by the title you chose.
I like the DOF that you've got going, I just feel there is too much bg.

Oh, how I love the softness of this image! The lighting is beautiful...dream-like. I like the composition of this image, though I daresay, given the overall quality of the lighting and softness, any composition would work. Dreams have no rules, and I feel any photography that suggests a dream state will also have no rules. Thank you so much for posting this picture. It relaxes me just looking at it. GREAT JOB!
