there's something kinda creepy about this for me. i like the way that the fog covers the ground and that you can't really tell where the sky is. great lines in the tree. 8)

The crop is better. Remember, sometimes you can pull an unwanted flower or bud down and catch it on another, or just pulling it down some will hold it out of the camera's site. I don't like to pinch off buds, but if the shot is going to be a great one without it, off it goes. Sacrifice! I would have liked to retain the bottom of the image below that bud. It is nice. Then maybe the crop wouldn't need to be so drastic.

Looked like the trees were flooded in the thumbnail but now I see the mist. Too bad the extreme tips of the branches did not register as it would have made the photo more complete. I'm not sure I like how they fade into oblivion unless the oblivion is also mist.

Yes, the crop right on the edge of the bud looks very good! Go for it!

What, did you steal my image! :-)
I have taken exactly the same image last summer. Didn't find it interesting so I didn't upload it. I like your image and the fact that the sun is low, so that you get a play between shadows and the light. I think yours is better than mine! :-)

I came in from the North. The last exit says something about bridge view or overview, something along those lines. But it tells which exit to take.

Nice composition, good exposure. Did you take this at dusk? Again, was the Velvia shot at 40? Nice image.

Nice photo. I think the bud on the left is a little distracting. Did you shoot this Velvia at 40?

Thanks Kim,
I cropped off the little bit of sky that was showing so it would go off into infinity.

Dan, I like this one so much more... each row has such character and detail. Don't get me wrong, I like both, but this one holds so much more for the eye to look at. Love the way that it disappears into infinity!

Always enjoy this classic shot... by the way Don, how do you get up to this point? I'm from the south bay and havent ventured to the north side of the bridge yet...

Thanks for the comment.

I took this because the sun was low on the horizon and I liked the shadows that made each row stand out.

Nice photo but one that cries out for more dramatic sun (AM or PM). Might also crop it so that forground pole is at the margin of the print.

Thanks for your reply Dan. It will instructive for me to see the shot before PS processing was applied. Reciprocity failure, in a nutshell, is the unpredictable effect of very long or short exposure times. I asked because I could see no evidence of it in your picture and it makes me very keen to try Velvia.

The above URL is a short explanation of this complex phenomenon.

Cheers!

To answer your question Jeff, I increased the contrast which helped increase the color some. As for question 2: I don't even know what "resitance of Velvia to reciprocity failure" means, so I would have to say no.

I will upload another picture I took about 10 ten minutes before this one, but leave it as taken without any PS changes.

3.30am! Well... it is a great picture Dan. I have not used Velvia before and the colours are stunning. I have two questions for you. 1. Did this picture get any post processing in PS? 2. Do you know much about the resitance of Velvia to reciprocity failure with long exposures over say... 1 second ?

Cheers!

Jeff

Every book I read seems to say the same thing, if you want good landscape pictures, there are two basic rules: Sunrise and Sunset. So, I get up at 3:30.

When got to the beach where I took this picture, there was one other car there. And he was there to take pictures too.

Thanks, I was hoping it was worth getting up a 3:30am for that 2 hour drive.

This picture was actually taken towards the west. The clouds were blocking most of the sun, so I couldn't get a good picture of the sun coming up. I took a few but tossed them.
