Sorry - yes on the right. I know guessed it was your shadow - it is still a pity.

Baie mooi.
Interesting perspective - pity about the bit of shadow on the bottom left.

I think this is awesome. Is this the inspiration that a new D2H brings.

Hot rate with these is insane at the best of times, but to get it sharp just on the helmet is most unusual. Well done.

Superb image Andrea,

Ball in a circle in a circle in a single pool of light.

Dunno how you did this, but the result is amazing. The sharpness of the drop against what appears to be swirling water in the background makes the image.

Super shot Mark. These are very hard to get - especially at a 40th. Did you use rear curtain sync on the flash.

Think the pic would have been that little bit better if the framing placed the subject just a tad higher in the frame.

What a place to live Phil. The image is pleasing in all the usual ways, lighting, colour, scenery and content. For me, the vapour trail from the jet places the whole scene in the 21st century and is a suberb touch.

Love the lighting on this Mark, both the rim lighting on the car and the way the translucent pipes in the backround pick it up. Super shot.

Love the colours, lines and the initimacy that these pics bring. Great pic.

This image is technically fine, sharp, correctly exposed etc.
The fence that wraps around the corner in the background and the undulations in the circuit however, give it depth which works really well.

Yes Megan, South African but really just a stock standard motorcycle racer, crazy by the "rest of the world" standards.

Photographer's Comments

In response to viewer comments, here is a bit more info on this image.

Submitted pic because of the near inpossibility of getting this type of shot. Through an 800mm lens (manual focus), they flash in and out of focus so quickly that you fire purely on instinct. Because they take different lines through the corner, you also have to track them, which with the bulk of the lens is less than easy.
As you are picking them up closer to you, you start off with a viewfinder full of blur, which then becomes smaller and sharper as they get away from you, which is much harder than when they come towards you, small at first, getting bigger and bigger as they approach.
When you get one in the screws it is technically very gratifying.

Sharp action, well lit. Like the diagonal of the defender's arm

Bingo! Beautiful. Kids never understand the scale when you tell them later. This explains it perfectly.

Nanette,

Thanks for your kind words. It is not unusual to get part of the image sharp when using slow shutter speeds, not only on panning but also when the subject is moving towards you. It is a bit of a hit and miss affair, but the results can sometimes be pleasing. The attachment shows the detail on the driver`s head, where the image is surprisingly sharp.

Unfortunately the image loses a great deal of impact when reduced like this.

Thanks for the kind words. Terence, I took two frames, the positioning of the people was good fortune.
