Hi Gayle, i see why this wouldn't work in B&W, and quite frankly, I don't quite see the point in trying; the colours create a big part of the appeal of this image, and the combination of patterns an the way they interact with eachother is quite spectaclualr. Converting it to B&W would, IMO, create a forced effect of trying to make an artistic statement for a photo which already has what it takes.... Very well composed, and a very intriguing photo!
Cheers,
hugo

Beautiful picture with plenty to set you thinking. Am I right in guessing that you've chosen to display it upside down? The reeds at the top look wavy and the ones at the bottom are straight. Adds to the slightly surreal quality of the picture. Well done Richard

This is really beautiful, Gayle. Yes, I see the 3 distinct patterns - the upper area of "smoother" ripples, the grasses, and the lower area of "choppy" ripples - it's amazing how you got this little microscosm - so much going on in such a small space. I really like the way the upper and lower water parts are separated nicely by the grasses. Most people would never notice the difference between the two parts, but you captured it so well.
Best regards, SteveR
P.S. - I think your choice of sticking with color instead of B&W was a good one for this image.

Nice reflection, like the ripples in the water. Wish bottom part of image were sharp as the rest, still well composed Gayle. Thanks much for your constructive comment, don't have the software you mentioned just PS 7. Keep up the good work, best wishes.

Hi Gayle,
The richness in colors is the first thing I notice. But I also like the crippled water, the fine details with the grass and the DOF. Maybe a duck or something else would be great to get more "action" into the image =)
best wishes, Thilo

You just about say it all in your title and your "about"! I love the contrast of the little ripples and the bigger ones on either side of the reeds. Superb. AJ

Hi Gayle
Nice abstract. I love the area of the grasses and their reflections. Reminds me of the doodles I did in my school book as a kid instead of listening to the lesson.
Thanks for the reminder.

This is great Gayle - at first it seems a bit busy, but after looking at it for a bit you start to appreciate the different patterns you've managed to capture. Once passed the initial feeling of this image being busy, it creates a nice feeling of peacefulness.
