Cute shot Darlene. Looks like Crystal is giving him some help there.
Anyone who has a birthday on Nov 19 is ok in my book. Kind of neat seeing this, as my six year old daughter just took my picture with her toy digital as I was blowing out my candles! Ok, a few representative candles!
Happy birthday Duane!

Thanks so much for all the tips Andre! I haven't had to scan too much lately (since digital) and when I do it's usually done quickly and with little or now knowledge on the scanner. Maybe I should read the manual (Not!) I have an epson photo scanner and I am going to try and follow your directions. I'll let you know how I do! Thanks for taking the time to help me out. Have a wonderful weekend! Take care my friend. Darlene

Hi Darlene, Great memories, as you know, I'm digging in the archives myself. I can tell you what I am doing that seems to work pretty well for a little better quality. The old addage, "crap in crap out" does not always hold true when scanning negatives. or prints. It is amazing what you can do with your old prints and negatives sometimes. I don't have a super scanner, just an Epson Perfection 1250 that I bought about 3 years ago. One of the mistakes I made when first archiving was in the intrest of speed, I scanned my prints and negatives into too small a file size. I suspect this is what you have done with this shot. Of course, if you are scanning faded or damaged colour prints, you will be limited on what you can do. One thing I found out however is some of my almost unprintable B&W negatives can really be improved in Photoshop just using the levels adjustment alone. When I started to scan well exposed negatives into larger files, taking my time, the results were amazing to me. I was just telling my wife the other day that it is like opening up a new window to your past. Have fun with them. scan large files and experiment in photoshop. I usually try to get them back down to as close to 360k for posting here and usually the compression doesn't screw them up too much. Good luck Ps check out my "photographer's apprentice" series with the colourizing in them. They were scanned from Tri-x negatives and altered in Photoshop 3 as were my latest two of Antoinne. Actually I have several in my portfolio from almost 30 years ago. Andre

Ain't it great to look back in the archives Darlene. It conjures up all sorts of emotions. Every time I do it I wish I had today's equipment then. I agree with Ray, you win some you lose some. Either way you've done a great job here and at least now it's digitised. Well done. Den

A wonderful walk down memory lane Darlene. The nostalgia is great. Gotta love those expressions of them both blowing out those candles.
Nice choice for the birthday and many happy returns to the birthday boy.
Thank you also for you wonderful comments to my images Darlene.

A blast from the past Darlene. Lovely to see them as they were. Scanning is a lottery, sometimes you wind-up with something better than the original and other times you have frustration. I love these old shots, might dig around for some myself. Thank-you for sharing. Bless you...Ray
