About	The altar... Although the oldest of Birmingham's churches and the focal point of the market area since the 12th Century, St Martin's has been extensively rebuilt and repaired. The current church was designed by Alfred Chatwin, a Birmingham architect, and built in 1875, but it has been refurbished and repaired at various times, not least after bomb damage in World War Two.
