Wonderful image! The first thing I thought was it was a very stark area that had burnt during a fire and why would such a beautiful bird be drawn to a area like that. Then I spot the mouse.
I like the contrast between the Kestrel and his surroundings. Excellent capture! Dwight

Marcus,

This is a great shot, as are your other Kestrel pictures. I'm thinking of getting the 20Da, as I am an amateur astronomer as well. It may interest you to know, however, that this bird is a female. It is easy to tell the two apart, as the male has blue-gray wings. The female, as seen in this picture and your others, has wings the same colour as its back.

Cheers,

Todd

Gorgeous composition, the dark grey background withe the bird sitting on the dark charcoaly branch make a wonderful backdrop for the bird. You have captured his expression so very well, love the way he is looking round, every detail perfect Marcus. You, Yamil, Jim C and Lee H - your persistance never ceases to amaze me and admire you all, am so very sad at Lee leaving.

Great capture Marcus.
I am sorry for the mouse. At least he became famous after this shot. Just kidding.
It is unbelievable that such a little raptor can eat a large prey like this one. And they eat everything. Nothing is wasted.
I like the picture that you took yesterday of the male Kestrel.
Are you going to share that one with your UF fans?
I hope so. Kestrels usually don?t let you get close and you really got lucky.
If the weather gets better, I hope to see you on Sunday at Radio Rd.
Yamil
