About This is the end a railway sleeper being used as a fence close Tramore in Waterford. The soft wood between the knots has been eroded by the salt air over the years and left behind this great texture. It actually looks like an Owls face! I used several adjustment layers to even out the tones and bring detail to the shadow areas. Shot on RAW - dept was kept low to keep the attention on the wood. I have to say that this looks way better as a print.

Fine photo. I like the 3D effect accentuated by the o/o/f background. Nice framing too.

Thanks you Barry for letting me know. Ah well! Back to the drawing board as they say. I havent seen the results yet but I bet I'll be kicking myself. You really are just as well to take the themes as literally as possible - trying to be different can be mis-interpreted by the judging panel. In fairness I cant complain all that much - I got a 350D out it thus far! I'll aim for the runner up spot as consolataion. I entered http://www.usefilm.com/image/958599.html for the autumn round. Did you enter anything in yourself?

Shane, it's not good news. You didn't score and Paul Whiting came 3rd with Ray Gover scoring 25 pts. The standings are now Paul 1st 206pts, Ray 2nd 160pts and you're 3rd with 152pts. It's then a big gap to 4th with 115pts. You need a good autumn round to secure 2nd, but it's not now possible for you to come 1st. Sorry, mate.

Owl or not (And it does look like an owl!) this is stunning, really beautiful patterns and textures Shane and whatever you did with the PS work it all looks good. The more I look at it the more I like it, you ought to be well proud of this one, even down to the frame.

Like it! It's got to score some points just for creativity. We'll see next week. Good luck.
