About Taken with the Hoya R72 filter. 1.6 sec at F 11. The direction the camera was pointed the sky was almost black when I took a color with polarizer. I am sure that is why there is no detail in the sky area.

Wonderful photo Don! I've toyed with the idea of getting a IR filter and this photo has sold me on buying one. I like the sky and the detail of the trees. Also the frame is very nice. Dwight

Hi Don.
I have used this way to whitebalance, but within Nikon Capture. I did not have the same success as you though. May give it another try.

Hi Christian, there was no green grass in this area. All brown. I can do the same thing in the RAW converter of Photoshop. Just use the eyedropper in a green area for white balance.
This is about the way I am doing t his. Have set it up in an action. Thanks. Don.

Hi Don !
A very nice place to experiment the effect, and you did so successfully.
Here's a workflow in IR
1- With the filter on the lens, do a Preset White Balance over a patch of well lit green grass.
2- Set the camera on a tripod, take the filter off and compose.
3- Put the filter back on and shoot - bracketing will be useful, as it will be most important not withhold the highlights from blowing out.
-- In PS
1- In the Channel Mixer, reverse the Blue and Red channel - that is, in the Red channel set Red to 0 and Blue to 100, and in the Blue channel, set Blue to 0 and Red to 100.
2- Hue / Saturation : Magenta Saturation -100, Red saturation -100
3- Adjust levels to taste.
4- Salt and pepper and a little garlic if you like.

Try it !

I want to try IR just don't want to spead extra money for the filter when I want a telephoto lens so bad. Looks fine. Excellent image and composition.

Wow! Don. An outstanding IR image. Everything works in this one! A very nice composition and the color range is really great for an IR. I really like this one! Nicely done! Your trip to shoot aspens was a winner! Regards, Larry

Close your eyes and pretend that this is a very bright moonlit night - early snow storm has dusted the trees and everything glows! Great shot - this is a wall hanger for sure. Well done. Jan

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique I liked the thumbnail when I saw it but when I opened it up to see the larger image I particularly enjoy the sky effect. It appears to be a deep green which works very well against the white trees. I love the tree trunk against that green sky. It almost glows. Very nice photo. A pleasure to view and the frame is beautiful. Would love to know how you did the frame. Cheers - Ann :)
