Thanks for info ,Marcus. Yes usualy sharpening brings out noise on the blue sky. Another quick way is to lasso the bird and than only shapening the bird. With the blur tool you can than (on enlarged)pic blur the sharpening effects just around the edges of the bird. cheers Guido

Thanks for the email Guido, I tried to email you back but said undeleverable address when I replied. So i will just post it here for you...
Thanks Guido, this is the original sky, artifacts are from sharpening? In situations such as this I work on the bird to get it the way I like then just create a new layer, Run neat image or grain surgery to remove all noise , Then run the eraser to expose the original detail of the bird, Its very fast to do. that was taught to me by Kevin of Birders world Magazing years ago. what you see in my posted pic is the original sky done with this technique but not being careful while erasing . If you look at many of my other shots you will see some have jpg artifacts due to the fact that I was so busy doing PS for a couple of other members photos that by the time I got to mine I did a sloppy job with the eraser going over the bird and hitting the sky and exposing the original noise. My work has suffered since taking on the work of others that dont know adobe, but I am putting a end to that as I did go to two UF members houses and got them started doing there own PS work. so I can take my time and get back to my own shots.... Your email is very much appreciated your technique is very nice it is what my brother uses but can be time consuming, and you should give my method a try and see how it will speed the process up, I'm sure you will stick to yours as its what you know and like best as my brother would not change. but there is always more then one way to do the same thing :) Thanks again.. Marcus.

Nice pelican shot Marcus. It seems impossible that these guys can get off the ground, let alone fly. They look almost prehistoric. Nice one again...I like the big open wing span.

This is another magnificent shot, Marcus. Very good capture of the pelican slowing for landing. I look at your images every day but don't often comment because your bird shots are all the very best in detail, color and presentation. Best wishes, Larry
