About Making it real, compared to what?
lyrics by Eddie Harris and Les McCann

"The president, he got his war.
Folks don't know just what it's for.
Nobody gives us a rhyme or reason,
Have one doubt they call it treason.
We're chicken feathers all, without one nut.
Damn it!: Try to make it real, compared to what?"

Peaceful protests took place today worldwide...more than 100 thousand participated in WA,DC....

Color shot converted to B/W...

Thanks for your feedback....

Hello Gayle, what a stir you've caused! Great image. I love the composition and contrast. very nice. Just out of curiousity, what was the original color of the peace symbol?

Strange... I went to see if that red neck's ass was worth kissing only to find that he had dissapeared, vanished... imploded!

A nice example that we should encourage others to follow.

Yeah, and when the PRO-war wackos decided to turn out in support...there was an overwhelming crowd of (snicker) 500 people!!

"in terms of choices." Sadly, the choices that have been made have us mired in this mess, and I happen to agree that we can't just 'stop the war' without creating yet more tragedy - the war will continue without us. My issues have to do with *why* we are there in the first place, and the unbelievable revisionism that is being spewed about this whole thing.
I should never have let my buttons be pushed and get into this political 'discussion' on a photography site in the first place - my apologies to all for that. Last 'diatribe' from me!

May I suggest some lyrics of my own:

"All we are saying... is bring back Saddam!"

That's not the intent of the "Stop the War" advocates, of course, but when you play out the logic, that's what it boils down to in terms of choices.

"All the world over, I wish they could see,
People in Iraq just gotta be free.
Listen to me listen that's the way it should be,
in Mesopotamia - people gotta be free!"

I love what you did here. The black and white only adds to the power of the image and the urgency of the message. Hard to imagine how you could have portrayed it better.

Quinton, why does your name now show up as "John Test"???......and in my UF notification it shows up as yet another name? Noticed you are on other sites,so good to know you will still be shooting your pretty flowers and scenics! Take care,Quinton

Mr. Weeks, I did not mean to offend you, and if I did so I apologize. What I am saying is that I have had enough of the portrayal as un-american of people who are opposed to the actions and policys of this administration. How one can label people (as you have) who fear for the future of *their* country and want to do something about it as unpatriotic or un-american is beyond me.

i will say i have NEVER posted anything un american or political to any country.i would never post anything i considered offensive to anyone for any reason.to keep from offending anyone else i am removing myself and photos from this place and the liberal unamerican members can just kiss my american red neck ass.

Nice record of this poignant moment, Gayle! The guy's expression says so much doesn't it?

"you believe what you choose and block out what you dont want to hear or that wont agree with your agenda or party affiliation is all." QW

One of the great successes of the right's propaganda has been to associate anti-war with anti-troops and to paint anyone who doesn't support the party's agenda as unpatriotic. I, for one, don't put up with this BS portrayal any more!
I wonder just what it is that you (we) are blocking out and don't choose to hear? That we invaded Iraq to rid the world of Saddam's weapons of mass-destruction? Oh, that's right -we don't say that any more. Later we were told that we invaded Iraq to 'liberate' the Iraqi people. Gotcha. Then it was to fight against the terrorists. We're fighting 'em now - they've come to the greatest training ground they've ever had! Now we're 'spreading Democracy'. That would be nice, wouldn't it?
Well, sorry for the diatribe - I'm tired of biting my tongue!

It's beautiful
Kind of timeless
Kind of "those were the days" though
Which makes it more sad
Still 100 thousand can't be sniffed at
She looks defeated. That's sadly appropriate.

Gayle sweetie,

You make the world a better place by being a critical mass in your own right.

Yeah!

Paul

Stop the killing! How can any reasonable person argue otherwise? It's long been clear that there was no threat or reason for this war, other than the personal misguided aggrandizement of those in power. If you support the war, it is for one underlying reason: you enjoy it. Good on ya, Gayle, for this one, and lets have more.

Nice image Gayle BTW, the protests today were world wide, not nation wide (but somehow the corporate run media missed it all - I'm sure Europe had very good coverage).......

Are you ok?....i certainly had no intention of causing you such turmoil....in all fairness tho', it is my page and my image to present how i decide, just as it is your choice to comment how you choose to as long as it remains respectful...

John Test   {K:1956} 9/25/2005
well i will not comment again i assure you.use this means as your personal sounding board for your views all you desire.

Quinton, just as you do? I didn't post this image to debate anyone because there is no point...we all have our own beliefs...this is my own contribution to the current events of today...why did you bother to leave that expression if my image offends you? It is ok by me for you to skip those images of mine that you prefer not to comment on as i often do with images on UF...BTW,i have no party affiliation...just an individual who thinks for herself...
